Some manufacturers will no honor warranties if you don't get the one they sell with their mattress. I know that was the case with the Beautyrest I bought. Just a thought.

Is that what you would sleep on if I was to visit?

We returned our Helix, we didn't like it. My back was killing me.

FWIW, I ended up picking up a lightly "used-only-in-the-guest-room" Tuft & Needle on craigslist for cheap. I'm liking it.

After spending way too much time researching mattresses, we bought a $200 foam topper to put on our new but too firm mattress and we couldn’t be happier.

Don't know how it sleeps yet, but we found a local "liquidation" place in sandy. Grabbed a Serta icomfort "genius" model. Memory foam of some configuration. Got the mattress, box spring, and a full frame (not just a Hollywood frame) and 1200ct sheets for $525 out the door. I don't know if these things fell off a truck or what, but damned good deal I thought.

For those in the SLC area. Look up liquidation pros on Facebook. Really the only place you can find them. In a warehouse like space in sandy off 700w (8583 Allen st). They will haggle and cash talks. Good people far as I could tell. Told a few friends and let them know via Facebook and they said swing by for a free set of sheets. Social media for the win.

Update: a year and a half later I'm still thrilled with the Novaform Serafina that I bought from Costco for $700 delivered last year. Just got back from three weeks of travel and couldn't wait to get back to our bed, I sleep better there than anywhere else. My back troubles have also subsided, though I've been in a good stretching/strengthening routine so I can't attribute that totally to the mattress. Would buy it again in a heartbeat.

Update: guests have been raving about that https://www.tomorrowsleep.com/ hybrid mattress my parents got. In fact they're thinking of upgrading other beds in the house.

After reading that internet mattress article, it's amusing to read the big claim on the tomorrow sleep site.

Damn, just read that. I've been shopping for a few mattresses for a condo we just bought and now I'm getting bombarded by Purple, Leesa, Casper, Tuft and needle adds. It's crazy.

How the fuck does one decide between these?

I was looking at Serta, Sealy, Mattress King, and Denver Mattress, but the prices are insane. 0% APR would be helpful in a purchase right now but 0% APR on a $3K mattress is dumb if you can buy one for under $1K on line and have it shipped for free & no tax.

Anyone else have any experience with the mail order memory foam mattresses?

Bump. The wife is demanding a new (and bigger) bed. Moving on up to a king, I guess.

WHERE THE FUCK DO YOU START?

The websites are all obviously total bullshit but so are the review sites. Has anyone quasi-reputable like Consumer Reports reviewed these fucking things?

Biggest issue is we want as little movement transfer as possible but I also have no intention of paying $3000.

We got that same Novaform as Pegleg a few months ago. We love it, and it's highly rated by CR. If you don't like it, Costco return policy is second to none.

Still liking my Tuft and Needle. CR has it at about the same as the Novaform. Best way I can describe it is firm, yet still with that sink in foam feeling. It's definitely good in the movement transfer area.

I'm sure this has been said a million times, but this has got to be the worst place to skimp. We spent a fortune on a latex mattress, but 10+ years later, it's as good as new, still under warranty, and I still sleep like a baby. Also, once you go king, you'll wonder why you ever questioned it.

Fair enough, but with two kids in child care plus student loans, $1000 was our budget for now. Just ordered the Novaform. If we don't like it in then I'll drop a few thousand more dimes in a few years for the real deal, if we aren't all dead yet.

Really liking my Saatva after 3 years on it. Great price...think I paid like $1275 for a delivered queen, box spring, and old mattress removal. Well worth the $$$$. Sleeps way cooler than the gf's Tempurpedic too.

CR has reviews of some mattresses, including some of the new school ones like Casper and Saatva. You'll have to pay to subscribe but it's probably worth it for something like this. Another site that has a lot of info and doesn't seem too biased is sleeplikethedead.com.

It can be hard to figure out what kind of bed you'll like without being able to try it first (e.g. I hated Tuft&Needle but other people love them). So I think the most important thing is making sure it's easy to get your money back if you don't like it.

Read a few pages, but didn't see an answer to my questions.

I need a new mattress, we are upgrading to king size. I am thinking one of the mail order ones: Casper, Purple, Tuft and Needle, etc.

We want something that is medium-firm (bad back) and sleeps cool.

    Anyone have good recs?
