    BC Travel

Moving to Maine this summer and, hopefully, will be getting into some minor BC trips next season. What's the best mode of uphill transportation for snowboarders besides a split board. I already have some nice snowshoes. Will those do or will I be left behind?

    1. Change name
    2. Remove "GRD" unless you're some tool from Whitefish
    3. Locate tech talk
    4. The best mode of uphill is an A-Star

Depends on the snow conditions and terrain. Here in Banff splitboards are prefered. In Chamonix snowshoes, but specificaly the smaller stiffer ones with lots of metal spikes on the bottom. If everything is harpack then a good pair of crampons...if you are alway in a skintrack then a pair of accension (sp?) skis. But regardless of the method you use you will begin to wish you skied as every system is a compromise...but sometimes not a bad one.

If you already know that a splitboard is your best mode of uphill transportation (self-propelled foggy ), why are you not interested in one?

I'd love to get a splitboard but figured my funds will be pretty shallow next season(still have no job or a place to live lined up). As for enjoying punishment.....let's save that for a different forum

Snowshoes are fine in the east where most of the approaches will be mellow and often boot-packed. Splitboards are obviously dreamy, but they are very expensive and without the vert/distance to cover (a la out west) you don't really NEED one. Having said that (and with a nod to BC Rider and his killer piece in Frequency) splitboards are a big step forward in BC efficiency, and once I get the $1600 for a 6 inch travel MTB saved up I can start on the $1000 for a splitboard/skins/crampons combo.

Call Mountain Miser in Denver. They have a demo fleet of splits that haven't been out much I'm guessing. They are always very fair with the prices on their demos at seasons end. It's worth a shot.
