substitute..
Wonder when it goes for sale?

It looks really snazzy in that photo. Beyond that, I have no information.![]()
The replaceable AT sole is not very aggressive; I thought it was the DIN sole until I saw the DIN sole a minute later. So if you're looking for a super lug stomper, these are not your boot. More like a 85%alpine binder/15%AT binder rig for the occasional touring/sidecountry folks. The Denali is still their primo AT-specific boot. Not much rocker, but apparently the super extremo rear flex (past vertical) when the cuff is unlocked makes it hike and walk like a dream.
I don't know how the fit runs, but I was told if I was a 26.0 in a T-race, then I'd be a 26.0 in a Tornado.
Not available until December.

Both will be in the lineup. Denali for the AT priority/inbounds minority skiers, and the Tornado for the inbounds priority/AT minority skiers.

Any dynafit compatability?....or will I have to cut holes in new boots ?

I just saw a mention in a norweigan magazine where they stated that "it is the replacer" of the denali line up.Originally Posted by GFP
There was not that much in the on the story, so i dont know how reliable the info is.

According to Scarpa at the OR show they will both be available in the US next year, FWIW.

How difficult is it to do. For a "shop" tech?
For clarification, im not even closely a qualified person to to that kind of stuff, but would it be a complete suice to try to make a "trusted shop tech" to do it?
Would the potential dynafit mounts come close to the boot edge/remountable sole joint and thus make it very insecure and breakprone?
Into what part of the boot does the mounts come?
Does anyone happen to have good pics of them?
I was couple of weeks ago asking people around, would Tornados replace the Denali and they still said yes.. ?At least you can find them for sell out prices from quite many european webshops.
And for the the last part of the neverending questions.
About Rossi/Looks and their auto adjust toepieces.
How cranky are they for rando boots?
Would boots, like, Garmont Megarides have too much rocker so the bindings dont accept the boot?
Because otherwise, my budget blows...
I was thinking to switch my old naxos to dynafits and all my rest of the bindings are rossis, and i might need some new alpine boots after this season, the budget gets blown from hell to heaven.
Or?

I will be trying this modification this autumn. I've had a bit of practice with boot modifications having done this to some 10 different pairs of boots over the winter.Originally Posted by Meathelmet
Tornado's don't replace the Denali's they are a different boot, more a freeride boot than touring...they look to alpine for my liking - see here
Rando boots will fit in the look/rossi topice and still work. I don't like how they look forced in there but they pass calibration tests !!.
I am waiting for the new dynafit aero4, this is supposed to be dynafit compatable, have a rockerd sole and be stiff enough for big stiff skis.

Idris, did you see this link off the Pistehors link you posted?
Looks like Scarpa will also be releasing a 3-buckle version of the Tornado that is Dynafit compatable... Called the Spirit 3.
I'm intrigued. Hopefully, they'll be available in the US and not outrageously exchange rated.

Interesting developments. Wonder if the Denali will survive.
Denali is old-school single plastic.
Tornado and Sprit 3 are multi-density plastic:

I would almost expect the New Denali to be a four buckle version of the Spirit 3, rather than tooling a whole new mold for a new Denali.
Either that, or Denali gets phased out entirely.
Interesting to see just how flat the sole of the tornado is. ZERO rocker.
Even though they advertise the easy walking rear flex, the flat sole will offset that.
This is basically an alpine DIN sole with a bit of vibram added.
Note the black slide patch in the middle of the forefoot that corresponds to the AFD location of the binders:

The thing about the Tornado that allows it to walk so well is the fact that the cuff can flex beyond 90 degrees.
Or so they told me at OR.
That being said, I can run in my Salomon course boots.![]()

Meathelmet - I'm moving to Zermatt for the fall and was hoping to maybe pop into Italy to get my boot situation sorted out (Garmont, Scarpa, et al. come from the same town in the Dolomites I think).
Any ideas on shops that might be especially worth visiting? Kind of a broad question, I know.
just sent a mail to a friend who lives around the scarpa/garmont/dalbello/dolomite area. stay tunedOriginally Posted by nhtele
garmont, salomon, rossignol-lange, head-sanmarco, tecnica, nordica and dalbello are made in asolo, close to dolomiti area. But there's no specific shop in that area that I can suggest. A friend living around there suggested a place called pajer at chies d'alpago, 30 min driving from belluno. Take care that all these places are quite far from zermatt!
Other suggested spots (thanks whitemount!) are footworks at chamonix and strolz at lech.
they've a sale (thanks again, whitemount!):

There is one shop in Villeneuve ( Between Courmayer and Aosta) that have sold huge quantities of garmonts and scarpas (especially teles) in the past years.Originally Posted by nhtele
I havent been there this winter but heard that they´re stock has not been that good this year.
I bought two pairs of la sportiva katanas (climbing shoes) for 50 euros two summers ago, so it can be cheap.
You cant miss it, it is the only sport shop in that village.
Other shops even remotely worth mentioning on the italian side are :
Courmayer : 8848 (?) on the main street.Sells arcteryx and mhw etc..
Aosta: Meinardi sport on the main walking boulevard (centro) .
Some "shop" besides the start of the Pila cabine.
One other shop is in the street parallel to the walk boulevard, but one block towards the pila station...erm this sounds confusing...
But none of theese shops are worth visiting, unless you happen to drive by.
If you want boots, go to cham.
Almost the same prices and you can do a good bootfitting in the Footworks(?)
beside the midi station.

Wow. Seems pretty odd to unload a newly designed boot in the middle of its first winter.Originally Posted by El Chupacabra

Kill all the telemarkers
But they’ll put us in jail if we kill all the telemarkers
Telemarketers! Kill the telemarketers!
Oh we can do that. We don’t even need a reason
Did some quick googling to research the boot -- couldn't find much info aside from:
- supposedly very stiff, comparable to alpine boot
- comes w/ smooth and vibram soles (replaceable), both are usable with alpine bindings -- AFAIK this is unique to the Tornado (some other boots have switchable soles, but not where you can use the vibram sole with an alpine binding)
- vibram sole has very shallow lugs -- less good for hiking
- almost zero rocker -- less walkable, more like alpine boot
- comes w/ thermo moldable liner (thermoflex? - from pics)
- supposedly fits similar to Salomon/Tecnica alpine last
- supposedly runs a bit large for each size
I couldn't find a listing of boot sole lengths for the Tornado sizes to match it up to my alpine boots.
I have 1 decent-length day tour on some Lowa Strukturas that packed out quite a bit during the day. They're returnable. So I can either fiddle with the Struktura fit, or return them and try the Tornado. Hmm... worst case scenario, ship the Tornados back to SAC for a refund if I guess the wrong size when ordering...
