Airbnb - tips and beta thread

Seems like Airbnb is pretty awesome. I've only stayed at one place on Kauai, but I think it might be helpful for mags to compile any useful information, tips, reviews, beta, etc. here. I'm looking to head down to the Sayulita/Puerto Vallarta area around the end of May, and I think I'm gonna score most of my lodging via Airbnb. Hopefully, I'll have some good intel to add soon.

yeah, I've used it multiple times, always worked out well for me. I set pricing parameters, and then search on the map.

best place I've ever stayed was in Levanto, Italy.
damn that was a good trip

I love AirBNB. Haven't used it in about 18 months, but I got an entire house(3 bd) in British Columbia for like $140 a night. I've also rented a basement apartment out for 5 weeks on an extended business trip. Saved me about $65 a night. It's definitely hard to beat.
All I want is to be hardcore.

Which is interesting, because a company like Hyatt is worth $10 billion, and they at least own $5 billion or so in actual property. Though I understand real assets are a burden to disruptive companies, who'd prefer to just leach off other people's cars/houses/etc.

Well, since AirBNB has an actual cash flow and very little overhead it should at least be worth more than some of the other $10B tech IPOs. Pretty good segment on NPR's Marketplace tonight.

Pretty interesting to see that they are putting their headquarters right in the middle of arguably the worst neighborhood in Portland this summer. Makes me think of the backlash in SF that all the techies are dealing with while loading onto their luxury buses for the commute from SOMA to Silicon Valley.

Guessing the City of Portland is giving them a tax break to move into that neighborhood like Ed Lee (Mayor of SF) gave Twitter to move into the Tenderloin?
