Omg, this sucks. A good friend of mine has an amazing place up above Sweetwater. So much beautiful land, too.
You should have been here yesterday!

Posted this in wildfire thread. 3D map down the page puts things in perspective a bit.

Damn that sucks, maybe it'll cut down on tourism though. Wonder if the tree everyone gets in trouble for walking out on is still there.

Said this morning they were going to try and get up there today to get a look but they don’t know for sure. They just know fire was in the area but not sure of the details yet.

USFS already issued a statement on Facebook about multiple tow trucks getting called out to Hagerman Pass.

You would think people would figure that one out as it gets pretty rough right after the split just before Ivanhoe Lake (W to E) and right after the Native Lake TH (E to W).

Apparently there's another fire north of Silverthorne over Ute Pass.

After I saw all the stuck semis on Trough Rd during the blizzard that shutdown I-70, this does not surprise. Expected.

It is pretty weird that state patrol hasn't figured out a way to stop truckers from trying to drive over these passes that they can't make it over. I mean, I know that neither party is known for their genius, but for fuck sake! Screw over every other vehicle on the road because they can't communicate the fact to trucks that they can't go over a tight mountain pass? Why not just some kind of bar that only allows vehicles of a certain height to go past or something.

Trough Rd I can somewhat understand, because it is a graded road for passenger cars (although certainly if a storm is bad enough to close 70, it might be time to pull off the road and hunker down). Hagerman, though? Jeebus, that takes extra smarts to try that one.

If there's anyone staying at the Skinner Hut, they must be really annoyed.
