I mean, I totally understand why. We FRDB's tend to ski The Goods, while the gapers just show up with gobs of money and stick to the blues. Amirite?

Until you factor in your astronomical property value increase.

It isn’t the amount of people that is the problem. Ski areas aren’t really that crowded on the slopes and even if they were it wouldn’t be that big of a deal. It is the amount of cars that is causing the problems. Traffic and parking.

    So yeah, monorail.

Ultimately, it's all relative, I guess. But you're right in your original assertion: we're *ALL* part of the problem... regardless of our situation of how long we have been here.
We used to drive to ski from the Bay on weekdays. Leave at 4am, get home around 8p and ski bell to bell. 4 hr drives were just what it was. Guess knowing you were driving more miles made it justifiable.
Friend left here back to FR on Sunday at 445p (found out after the fact)...home at 1030. jfc

Is this new math? Care to explain how property value increases either reduce the cost of living or increase wages. It's nice party talk for those that own homes but that's about it. The increase in property values, which is probably on par with metro Denver, actually increases the cost of living for most.

I'm not trying to put words in your mouth but the attitude that people that live in the mountains should be thankful that the front rangers second home demand increases property values is weird at best. Sure, realtors and spec home builder are firmly latched onto that tit but it does very little for the rest of us.

Interesting question... here's a different take. Is there a business opportunity to target the tunnel trash while they are sitting in there cars for 3+ hours on I-70?

How about a proximity app called "stuck on I-70"? You can chat with other people about how the day was, send nudes, etc.

Or someone can do a live podcast and people can call in and bitch and complain, in real-time, about I-70 traffic. You could sell ads for that.

Well it seems like more than party talk. You own property that's appreciating by leaps and bounds, seems it should make the growing cost of living more palatable?

You are missing a couple key factors here. A) Denver has appreciated just as much as the mountains, if not more. B) our house has gained value, but so have all the other houses in the area, so if we sell then stay here and buy, then we don't get ahead at all. I can't buy a 2 br condo now for what I paid for my house.

Import a horde of young Filipino boys to bang on windows selling single cigarettes (wait... make that joints). Profit!

    How do you figure?

I can't sell part of my house. For the increased value to be of use, I have to sell my house and move somewhere that had proportionally lower rates of appreciation AND lower starting values. So hooray if I want to move to some small town in the midwest?

All increased property value means to me as a local owner is higher property taxes.

To local non-owners, it means higher rent and harder entry to ownership.

I too am dying to know how my house being worth more helps me pay for the essentials (you know, groceries, gas, healthcare, beer, and hookers)

Have you visited the Tahoe thread recently? I think things may have changed (much like CO).

The only way to mitigate this situation is to make Colorado a whole lot less attractive so people start moving out. This is a capacity issue, plain and simple. I say start voting red, seems to work for utah.

I agree with this - I've got tons of family that live in the Midwest where people are moving out of (Cleveland, Akron, Youngstown). Let's make Colorado more like the rust belt!

In the midst of Monday AM's storm there was a car fire IN the tunnel EB. Loveland Pass was closed. Glad I had a book.

Then the power in the tunnel went out - closed again.

This gripe not really population volume or ski traffic related. Once random incident can sure snarl things up.

Not gonna get fewer people in CO, is too nice of a place.
Could they do the monorail or widen the road through to Summit, with that tunnel there?? Will it forever be a choke point?

On the plus side, that little arm on lookers left of the stop light post is a siren .. like a tsunami horn that's super loud and kinda neat.
