Indeed... little expansions don't solve it. Abasin, Loveland, Keystone, Breck are exceeding their overflow parking most weekends... I Imagine it is the same at Copper and Vail. Expanding I70 without permitting another 2-3 huge resorts on the corridor... I'm sure the USFS and the environmental folks will be all about that!!!

Ok, just passed the Gtown hill and the WB approach to the tunnel. Two 30 mph rolling roadblocks in the form of trucks backed up traffic miles at each spot. It was flowing 65 until bam, stop and go with people racing up the right lane and cutting back in at the last moment, causing everyone to slam their brakes...followed by everyone flooring it only to slam them again. So fucking annoying.

A quick fix would be to add a slow lane where the breakdown lanes are at each location. No breakdown lane? No problem. They did it for 13 miles to build the express lane.

Yeah, much as I'm old school in terms of driving (and I can see benefits of a third lane heading WB out of Georgetown), this isn't going to be fixed until we have self-driving cars (the only solution I can see to the people problem).

Again, two fairly inexpensive fixes would help I70: add slow lanes to the aforementioned locations and have a 2-3 hour truck restriction on Saturday AM and Sunday PM. Shit would improve enough to make traffic flow better.

I think if I were a long haul driver I’d do my best to avoid the mountain corridor on a weekend, but I’d probably be pissed if I were restricted at any time for gaper traffic while I’m trying to make a living.

This morning I went to Grease Monkey in Frisco for an oil change....only one employee showed up, so the owner tells me that they might not open for at least another hour. Fine, I'll drive down to the Grease Monkey in Silverthorne. As I'm getting on I70, I see a car that had apparently missed WB exit 203 and was BACKING UP in the breakdown lane to get off the highway. It was super slick out there this morning, so I'm thinking "what a goddamn idiot". Well, the Silverthorne GM isn't open on Saturday (not what the website told me, but whatever) so I turn around and head back to Frisco. As I'm approaching exit 203, I notice a cop car with his lights on. Sure enough, the jerk off that was backing up earlier had caused an accident......of course, he's asian. The other vehicle is an older Subie, most likely a local, who now has a car that's not driveable and they're probably also late for work. What a fucking moron. /rant

That's reminds me of another thing that happened in Boulder yesterday...some asshole was backing up in the middle lane on Walnut St in front of the brewery, because he missed the entrance to the parking garage across the street. Meanwhile, traffic was flying by him on both sides, and near crashes in back from cars having to merge left or right, including two bikes. Just a complete self-entitled douchebag. Needless to say, my horn was on for 30 seconds and my finger extended as I passed the jerkoff.
