HAd an early morning appointment with my shrink in denver. Flew up and down in most excellent fashion.

As I drove around the county later this morning things went from dry to complete shit in seconds, hopefully I can make it back to silverthorne without a headache

Holy cow, that's quite the tumble. I was wondering why the car was flat... wow.

OMG. That picture of the turn above the cliff and aftermath is horrifying.

The road looks clear, is it really icy up there or just wet and going too fast?

Roads are very icy. I nearly went down just walking across the street.

This is the same spot where a young woman decided to take her life a few years back by driving over the cliff.

Was wondering about that as well. Maybe not an accident.

    RIP

edit...I think it's called ptarmigan cliff, IIRC.

Doubt it had anything to do with the slick roads. I used to live up that road.

Yup, that's Ptarmigan neighborhood. My brother used to live up there, so I'm familiar with the roads.....steep and gnarly...often impassible in the winter. He only lasted one winter in that place.

Why aren't there cement barriers up there to prevent that sort of thing? (I'm talking about the disruption to important interstate travel, not someone offing themselves)

The Vail Pass shit show is as much CDOT fault as drivers. They knew this was coming. Why didn't they treat the shit out of the road to keep the ice to a minimum?

You would actually have to try to drive off that cliff, but I agree, that there should be a barrier.

Or they'd waste half their budget putting mag or whatever down that'd end up on the 20k vehicles/day....
