Have you guys heard of Photoshop?
People who take Gondola 1 on a weekend powder day need to keep right on taking it. Have fun taking 1 hour to get to the summit.
Should've just taken Hwy40/I-70. We left Steamboat at 2pm and got to the Wooly lot at 5:40pm. The only bad traffic was near the summit of Berthoud all the way to Empire, 70 was fine. Not sure what all this bitching is about on the way home yesterday, oh wait it's the dumb gapic pass holders that have to go through the tunnel...figure it out, not hard.
That SNL skit they ran called The Californians needs a remake.
I can't even wrap my head around that lift line, is that seriously a real line? Mind blown.
Colorado the butthurt state! Some of you front rangers are rediculous. No more weekend pow pow for you. Some people skied powder all weekend, some people sat in traffic. What's the secret?
I'll say it again...someone needs to develop a couple of other good resorts off the I70 corridor. NW side of Pikes. Cameron Pass area. Somewhere to spread out the masses. 1 route is never going to get better.
it's timing, that's all, and occasionally you get screwed, has happened to me once in awhile, but it's my own damn fault when it does
the idea that you can just head home anytime 10 am and 1pm on a sat or sun and avoid traffic is dumb
everyone has to remember that the front rangers gave up on ski season in mid january last year since it didn't seem to snow between early january and mid march. So now there is a ton of demand as long as it's cold and snowy on the front range and cold and snow in the mtns it's gonna be a shit show
motel rooms, adjusting your travel times, not skiing on the weekend, they all seem to help
the idea you can fly up to the mtns on th weekend, ski for a couple hrs and fly home is kinda silly, but when thousands of people think they can do that...........................
It would need to be by a fairly major airport- several daily nonstops to NYC and SFO at a minimum. Flights to LHR or another major airport in Europe like AMS or FRA would also be a plus. I guess that means SLC or SEA.
The 50% of the time I am in my office I have a pretty nonstop meeting schedule, so at this point it would be a pretty tough sell to be remote.
Would love to get up to MT sometime. Thanks man.
I spent the last few days in Winter Park for a bachelor party. Drove over Berthoud yesterday morning, then hit Abasin for a few hours. I've always been an Epic pass holder, and was somewhat surprised at how shitty the traffic was going the opposite direction yesterday towards WP. They certainly are no stranger to shitty traffic, and Rte 40 can also be the suck on a pow day weekend. Figured I'd post some observations for those who are currently swearing off their i70 allegiance.
I was zonked from 3 days of shredding and bachelor partying, got off Abasin around noon, drove over the pass and was home in about an hour and 20 min. That included a necessary stop at 2 Bros for some refueling. Wasn't a bad day (What I mean to say is: It sucked! CO sucks! the traffic was pitiful, and I'm moving to XYZ...)...
I haven't experienced 40/Berthoud sucking too bad no matter what time it is nor if that is Friday/Saturday/Sunday but I do leave by 2pm at the latest. My one complaint of Berthoud/every other mountain pass is you'll have a steady line of traffic cruising at 25mph when its nuking because people are being cautious/safe. Then, you'll have one of two characters. 1. Big truck guy or 2. Subaru whatever guy who thinks because they own an 4WD/AWD vehicle that means they can just scream through the middle/passing lane even when the road conditions are extremely suspect. I saw this the other weekend, Mr. big truck decided to pull out and sure enough he put his truck sideways in the passing lane because no one was driving on it and it was a sheet of ice. Said people are often found in the embankment, stuck, because they can't understand that their AWD doesn't stop any better or worse than a FWD car.
Left Silverthorne at 10 pm last night. Got to tunnel by 11:30 pm. Several 2wd vehicles stuck in the middle of the road, including a VW bug. Several 4wd vehicles with out-of-state plates abandoned on the side of the road, like the driver's just gave up.
Took til 12:45 am to get to Denver.
Leaving later is the way to go. Less lift lines the later the day goes on anyway. Sure you miss that one run of semi-tracked stuff, but whatevs. Not every place is a $30 burger, check the newer food thread for suggestions. Chill out for a bit and get home a little later in better spirits. Just like the early morning lift lines, let the fools filter themselves out. Life is about trade-offs.
Or just carry on. Idgaf either way.
It doesn't look shopped.
That is probably only a 40 minute line.
I stood in it once when it was half that long and it took 20 min.
