If only someone could have seen this coming... Snow on I70 in December? Talk about unlucky!

What a joke. The lane is closed when it snows just a bit? What a waste.

Well, hopefully they won't do anything sensible like fill the rumble strips and line the road for two lanes and a good shoulder. Would be far better to leave the road as is and just never open the third lane. To pay for it, they could fine people $500 for using it.

I just opened this camera on cdots webpage and saw a car in the 3rd land immediately.

Lane is closed. But the I70 shitshow is going to be east of that anyhow. Pretty shitty from Floyd Hill east as of an hour ago.

Sure has gotten quiet in here.... where is everybody? You all out lapping I70 looking at your fancy new shoulder lane that closes for 2" of snow? Just keep telling yourselves what a bargain this is at only $75,000,000.00.

I saw this and it seemed brilliant so I am doing the same thing. Copper to downtown was 2 hrs 45 or so. Slow but manageable. Headed to theater now. Pretty good day on the hill!

I don't think anyone would think it's a bargain or good long term idea. CDOT with egg on their face today for sure.

In the past once you squeeze through Idaho springs things typically break loose. It goes to 3 lanes through the tunnel and up Floyd hill. With the e lane its two through the tunnel and only "officially" opens about a 1/4 mile from the 6 exit. Since the lane was closed it actually made my drive slower today.
I have more skis and bikes than Facebook friends.

What is the fine or penalty for going in the lane when it is closed? How will they nab you for going in it?

The lane opens at exit 232. Sorry, what I meant to say is the lane would open at exit 232. Funny enough, as I looked to confirm that, it seems that information does not appear anywhere in CDOT's readily accessible documentation. Minor details...

Narrowly avoided an accident this afternoon driving I 70 west where the lane striping suddenly indicates that two lanes merge and another ends in a wall. Oddly, Colorado's incredibly talented and well educated drivers struggled to discern what they were supposed to do there.

    What a bunch of tools.

One might ask, am I talking about Coloradans, or am I talking about CDOT?

    Yes.

Just completed my first express lane i70 EB pass. It was a downright religious experience cruising through Idaho Springs going 60 mph on a Sunday with good snow conditions. Satisfied customer, for now. Btw, lane was free today

A state which is a victim of it's own popularity. Migration in to the state has brought in scores of individuals, their driving habits, their shiny new SUVs, and a misplaced sense of invincibility and immortality that we all are forced to deal with.

I'm thinking a Winter driving test should be a part of the Colorado drivers' licensing process. It would be difficult to implement, however and therein lies the problem.

The lane was open today, was free and worked perfectly, even though it's really narrow. At night, bad drivers are going to drift or scrape the barrier for sure.
Smooth sailing at 4pm today until a big accident at Floyd Hill fucked it all up. I'm thinking a winter driving class for every Coloradan, every 5 years, has to be part of the licensing. People fucking suck driving.

    OFFICIAL I70 BITCH THREAD....

Blame cell phones? Roads were fine but people still somehow manged to run themselves off the entire highway - one across the median (near LL Basin), another off the embankment after Floyd Hill. Go Broncos? hah

Watching people crisscrossing in and out of the express lane, it seemed people were almost oblivious to it being an express lane. The toll was $12 yet people were jumping into it despite no apparant reason to do so? Even right before a toll camera??

It was nearly impossible to determine when the line was solid vs dashed btw, aside from rumblestrips.

It worked today, was home in no time. It will get interesting when the tolls go into effect.

The sign said $12 but all fees were waived today...just testing apparently.

In a light snow when it's open, that thing is going to be dangerous.

$12 they quoted with light traffic? Nice...

I think I'm just going to buy a weekend place up in Avon. Would make for easy family ski days. Always liked skiing the Beav...
