The east side of RMNP is in a snow shadow. It doesn't reliably get snow. Hidden valley existed in RMNP until 1991, but shut down due to lack of snow- it only got 150 inches of snow per year.

Eldora is just south of the Indian Peaks. It is a windswept shitshow of a resort. Anything to the south of 285 is also lacking snow. Maybe something out near Walden?

I know... you natives have tried everything. Nothing works. Everyone should just go home.

    Nice try... Enjoy New Mexico!

Walden itself is in the shadow of the Never Summers and doesn't get much ️snow. The area around Buff Pass gets tons of snow but is wilderness.

Some of y'all need to look at this map.

Basically the entire spine of the Front Range north of I-70, with the exception of a few very small pockets, is wilderness. Changing the status of a wilderness area requires Congress, which is real unlikely to happen. You won't be seeing any new ski resorts north of 70 in roughly ever.

Throw some lifts up Cam pass. No issue getting lots of cars up the Poudre. Straight as an arrow.

How very "native" of you. You should have included a step where everyone gets in a rickshaw and does a lap around the 16th street mall before making their train transfer. Luckily, CO isn't counting on Coloradans to figure this out.

I think you mean a snow shadow from the Park Range. The Never Summers are SE of Walden and wouldn't block snow.

Only the north side of Buffalo Pass is Wilderness. The East, West and South are all NF. Definitely enough room out there for another resort, but does Steamboat really need/can it support another resort up the road?

Edit- The area around Merideth could be a good candidate as well.

That's where Steamboat powdercats operates. Deepest snowpack in the state up there, but not exactly a chairlift friendly area.

If I can find the article I read, I'll post it, but it mentioned that the premier north facing ski resort sites in CO are effectively built out.

Most of Idaho Springs in 3 blocks wide or less. You'd need to take out an entire city block along the whole length to put in 4 rail lines... that means businesses and houses, not trailers. Also, it means that those houses that remain lose their value because they now have 4 train tracks in their back yard. If you think they won't fight tooth and nail politically to stop that, you are nuts. What politician is going to win pushing an 11 figure train track that can't support itself with ticket revenues and requires eminent domain to destroy homes and businesses so that middle class skiers don't have to sit in traffic a couple of days a year?

Now let's talk about where you plan to put those 4 train tracks in Vail?

You get one track with occaisonal side tracks where your train stop to let others pass when not in station. Even that will be hard and require elevated track. You will also have to build stations in weird places (Eagle-Vail, west of Empire, etc) because all the valley land in the towns is built out.

    IS is larger than that.

And it's not just about skiers. Transportation to and from the mountains facilitates economic development which drives greater residential and commercial density. People in CO still think cars are great. IS has the potential to be one of the most walkable communities in the state... a truly nice place to live. 20 min to Denver West, 35 min to downtown via commuter rail. No traffic or weather to worry about. Saunter on down to the train and go to work. Swap the Safeway for a City Market... throw a dry cleaner in one of the perpetually empty storefronts on Miner St.

You guys aren't seeing the big picture... everyone is hung up on the occasional snow day shit show. This is about CO in the 22nd century.

IS is NOT larger than that. Look at a map. It averages 3 blocks of width. Sometimes 1 or 2. Sometimes it is 4 blocks wide.

You are talking about eliminating 1/3 of residential and commercial area of Idaho Springs to turn it into rail tracks and in the next breath you are talking about increasing commercial and residential development in the same town you want to demolish because there is no room to develop?

    You are a good troll.

Lol... look up the definition of housing density. How ever might you improve on affordable housing efficiency by tearing down single wide trailers? And 30% is a ridiculous overstatement.

I seem to recall you being smarter than this.. are you just looking for an argument? If so, you should try making a legitimate one.

Idaho springs does not sound like a great place to live if its selling points are densely-packed apartments stacked around train tracks. Same for Georgetown. Sure, you can build up the sides of the canyon (very expensive), but you'll never escape the noise.

Eh... I'm tired of talking about it. You guys want to commit yourselves to finding excuses for why it won't happen? Go for it. You're only going to get flattened by those who see the opportunity for what it is. Best of luck fellas.

Dude WTF are you talking about with this native bullshit? I wasn't even born in Colorado for fucks sake. I don't know what point you are trying to make, but you are failing miserably.

I have no clue how modern transportation works? Absolutely hilarious, seeing how I work for a private company that is actively involved in transportation as well as the current I-70 toll lane project.

MY DIA to Summit County scenario would be 100% accurate if we ever build high speed rail from golden to Summit County.

Instead of just flinging shit, why don't you intelligently explain to me what was wrong with my post, and how I don't understand modern transportation?

Absolutely hilarious. 35 minutes. You really have no clue how transit works in the Denver metro area, yet continue to run your mouth with unbelievable arrogance.

The line from Golden to Union Station takes 40 minutes alone. http://www3.rtd-denver.com/schedules...ame=W&branch=W

One minute you were arguing with me about why Colorado will never be able to afford the 4 billion dollars required to expand I70, and the next you are talking about a 25 billion dollar HSR project. Absolutely Insane.

Why are we arguing this... Hasn't Aspen taught us that the solution is for everyone to fly in on their own Gulfstream?

In ten years everyone will commute by drone.

You'll just say "Hey Siri, take me to the Gnar".

40 minutes later and you're crushing the Back Bowls.

StarTrek transporters. You role out of bed and go straight to the slopes. No wasted travel time. Then I70 can be ripped out and IS can get their town back.
    /end of thread

Now someone get working on that!

    More seriously....

I wonder how computer driven cars will impact major clusterfucks like I70 in twenty or thirty years time once they become popularized and assuming they are designed well enough to handle shit conditions.

Even if I still have to get up at 6am -- sliding into my car, telling it to get me to drop me off at the gnar, and pick me up at 4. Drink beers and play with myself on the way home. Sounds a-Okay.
