Honest question. Given the weather forecast and specifically the wind, how does CDOT mitigate the paths that are not targeted by the Gasex or Avalauncher? Do we have to wait until the weekend and the natural cycle is complete?

I think they're at the point that they'd need a bunch of 'trollers from the ski area to skin up and start throwing hand charges on all the banks. And I don't see that happening for about a hundred different reasons.

I hear Alterra will have the Deer Valley -> Steamboat -> Wanker Pancake -> Snowshoe interconnect gondola open next fall.

I had to go to Denver for. Meeting today, Vsil Pass was shitty but typical, but got caught non the madness trying to get to the tunnel. 2 hours from Silverthorne. Several stalled trucks and cars on the way up. Almost 5 hours to the city. On the way back around 5:30, east bound was still bumper to bumper. I can’t imagine those folks waiting all that time trying to get to 70, only to find that mess. Glad to be home tonight.

I’m one of those people… but it’s been five years since I last skied and I don’t miss it one bit.

More snow and wind today. Highly doubt they’ll be getting Berthoud open.

Wow, this is really hard for me to process. I missed one season, had to go to CA to set up remote software work, and I was low key freaking out. Skiing feels like my identity and I don't even know who I am without it.

Are you doing something really awesome instead or how does that work?

Berhtoud and Loveland closed for almost a week. When that shit reopens, there will be much powder skiing, but also much carnage.

lots of those front rangers convince themselves that biking year round is as good. meh

I totally understand not wanting to deal with traffic though, not sure how I would handle that tbh. sucks to lose a mag to gain a guy in a tipsy elves onesie though.

    God bless them every one!

I just feel like a lot of people Just don't know how to plan to avoid skier traffic and I70 issues. Set themselves up for failure time and time again and just think that is how it is. They accept the fact that they are gonna sit in hours of traffic.

    Yeah, he is: https://chasingepicmtb.com

I don’t blame him one bit…I’d love to be able to ride and lead trips like that!

I suck at mtb but still enjoy it so much. After shitshows like this weekend, you do wonder about dealing with big powder days and everything that comes with them on I70 these days. I mean, it took Seth from Seth’s Weather Report 9 hours in the end, to get back from WP!!!

Really, I think nobody knows. Mostly because CDOT doesn't communicate. Berthoud is a priority because the alternates suck. It sounds, generally, like people have left via the back way but the grocery stores are low on food and the gas stations need a resupply.

I'm guessing that the next round of fuckery will be the skiers on the passes. In my opinion, the conditions are pretty unprecedented. And that's coming from a guy that has toured a lot on Berthoud during elevated hazard. Even the fuckery of people driving back over the pass to Wanker will be next level.

Silverthorne to Denver this morning was fine. But Silverthorne traffic yesterday was complete chaos.

I've seen reports of avalanche activity in zones I've considered safe or mostly safe (like gore creek trees). Keep things mellow out there.

Yeah I avoid I70 as much as possible. Glad I can go skiing without that road the mix. I only have to go over Fremont Pass, pretty mellow, although there is one steep hill up to climax mine, was swimming up that one the other day. One thought in my mind, DON'T LET OFF THE GAS, hahaha.
