Every single semi I passed west bound was chainless. Fucking cement dumper going 2mph down from tunnel. Then barely able to climb VP.
Then waited an hour for VP west side to clear.
If only my wife was prepared to leave an hour earlier. I would have avoided the whole mess.

No. If they actually enforced them and made people / rentals have real snow tires, half these problems would go away.

The law (i think it's actually rule...much easier to change than law) is a joke. With or without enforcement. Snow tires are not required by rule/law. And I have personally had instances where I met "traction law" in a FWD with 1 season old snow tires with plenty of treat where that setup was insufficient for the highway. Meanwhile, older M+S tires on a FWD with low clearance would technically still be OK.

We need either more stringent laws/rules, or we need to use Code 16 ("Chain law") far more often.

We have that in CO. I saw both a tow truck pulling a semi. And cdot 350 pushing another up east bound up to the tunnel on Sunday.

The problem is the trucks needing assistance in the first place.

Amazing how fucking clueless drivers are. Passed a Sprinter Van on Rte 6 this morning going 50-55 in the left lane. There was a parade of vehicles coming up on her fast, and each one would approach her, slam on their brakes, flash their lights and then pass on the right. She wouldn’t budge. I passed on the right finally and there she was just talking away on her phone. Fucking unbelievable.

I normally shake my head and don't bother with oblivious people, but in that case I would have considered doing a good dead and getting in front of Sprinter, turning on flashers, and slowing down until she moved right to get around me, then flooring it off on my way.
