I came up at 9pm last night and it was a joke. 2wd cars with bald tires, flashers on, sideways in the left lane, just because there's a truck in the right lane, a mile ahead.

Came down last night around 5, Genessee to 470 was as bad as I've ever seen it. Nuking, zero vis and the usual cast of characters trying to indulge their Christmas death wish. Good times.

    CDOT spokeswoman just said on the morning news;
"between Golden and IS ... passenger vehicles need to have good (1/8"+ tread) snow tires, OR carry/use chains."

here is what CDOT had on their FB page

For those of you traveling to the high country a chain law is in effect on I-70 for trucks and PASSENGER VEHICLES from Golden to Idaho Springs.

What's that mean? You must have 1/8" deep tread on your tires (tires should be all season with S/W) or chains/alternative traction devices. Yes even you, four wheel drive vehicles, must have at least 1/8" tread on your tires.
So, if I'm reading that right, all seasons are ok if they have enough tread?

So did this requirement help? Anyone head up and see the impact if at all?

Did anyone go through that roadblock? How was it executed by the police? Did the highway merge into one lane and they checked each vehicle? Where did they turn vehicles around? Just curious...

what roadblock? if you're talking about cold_smokin's post, it was a joke:

How did the cops organize the whole quarter tire check? How did they turn people around and keep it moving?

This was right before Morrison, so no pass, and you were going to Red Rocks. They had these wannabe extendable Gopro poles with quarters on the end for a quick inspection. Waived me through in under 2 seconds.

did they get a discount for buying so many go pros at once? Do you think I could get one cheap when they sell all their go pros this summer?

I have one tire with lots of tread and the other three are almost bald, which wheel did they check? Should I put the tire with lots of tread on the front right so I can get pass the check point? I'm really worried about getting back from denver

Fred- they looked like the gopro poles, no gopros attached. They had quarters on the end though.
They barely looked at guys with big tires. You should put a 285/75/16 on the front left tire. They'll wave you right through.

"Reject" stickers placed on your license plate if you didn't pass.

Whoa...I only saw the troopers at the interchange, I didn't realize they had a strip behind them!

Only thing they need now is a flatbed loaded with tires in the Dino lot. Get some grease monkeys who can swap out your tires in 20 minutes for a discounted rate and send you on the way.

my bad, misunderstood you, thought they had go pros mounted on the poles so they could use the footage to make PSA commercials

big tires oh-yeah bro I got worn out mudders that are a foot wide talk about slip n slide traction

do the reject stickers go in the top left or bottom left of the rear plate? what if my cousin comes out with iowa plates where does he put his sticker?
