my recommendation - create a flexible life for yourself and ski weekdays...
otherwise, stay overnight when possible, or drive early/late or go on Bronco gamedays

new tunnel is open for business.

In other news, CDOT has done a good job of keeping stuff open of late.

The new west bound tunnel was open yesterday. But the east bound was still closed.

I heard they were going to close the tunnels and divert traffic to 285 for the rest of the winter since so many skiers seem to think it's such a great alternative.

they were pouring concrete in idaho springs in the dark rain/snow mix last nite, someone from clear creek county gov't must have sat down with one of the fucks ups from cdot and explained to them enough was enough. pouring concrete while on scafolding in the dark with shit conditions and traffic blasting by at 60 mph aint' the safest thing to do (east bound traffic was at a standstill though)

in other news cdot was paving in freezing wet conditions by the twin tunnles, expect that to crumble by spring, you can't pave under 40 degrees and expect it to last

I can picture it now, the citizens of clear creek led by the clear creek militia will close down i70 like the indians do in nys when they get fucked over by the state and want to prove they are really a sovereign nation. Expect tire fires burning cars and trash while heavily armed they will barricade i70, the police just stand there watching. it happens every 10 or so years in ny expect clear creek to take over i70, maybe they'll even start their own tolls like ward did

You can pour below 40*F with the right mixture, as well as proper prep for insulation and heating. I have been working with civil contractors and engineers for quite some time now, and have asked the question.

Aren't there admixtures that can be added that help with sub-40 deg temps? Anyway, yeah, sounds like someone did get a talking to. Even pouring concrete in that kind of weather isn't done much, at least from what I've seen, unless it's in a very controlled environment. What a bunch of fuckups.

I was misunderstood but then again I always am

pouring concrete can be done anytime anywhere, no shit, poured plenty of concrete in the midle of winter, know a guy who burned a house down pouring concrete in the middle of january, the only thing that sucks about pouring concrete in winter is you have to pay some over priced know it all engineer a ton of money to come out and stick a thermomoeter into the ground fill out a sheet of paper for 300 bucks to say its ok to do, what kind of job is that? where did I go wrong in life?

asphalt on the other hand should not be set in wet conditions at 34 degrees but cdot doens't care about your money or a quality job

to the pour fuckers pouring concrete wed night in the dark cold rain and snow with cars flying by well that just sucks balls don't slip

    Apparently this belongs here-

when do you think would be a good time to leave tomorrow morning? Worried about road closure on i70... I would love to head up tonight but not sure that is going to happen.

OK dude, I'd guess you are not retarded but it would be hard to tell from that post. What we've got here is a "major winter storm" [colorado standards] hitting on the end of the weekend before Christmas. I don't work in reservations, but I'm guessing there are probably a fair amount of people expected to travel on I-70 during the next 24-48hrs. The weather combined with the traffic volume is probably going to create some extended travel times. I-70 may...even...close...gasp.

So what's the question? Even Aladdin doesn't know exactly when the meat of the storm will hit, the condition of the road, the travel plans of the masses and any other the other variables that would him to allow him to tell you exactly what time to roll out of bed and push the pedal on the right.

[spoon feed]the earlier you leave, the better the chances you make it[/spoon feed]

honestly dude, what kind of answer do you want? Leave at 5:12 and you'll be good but if you leave at 5:13 the pileup will happen right in front of you and you'll be fucked.

Ok, I'll word it better. For people who have driven up on storm days like this is supposed to be, what has your experience been with road closures in the am- more about the conditions themselves than accidents

Was planning on leaving close to 5, relax once I'm up there

    Progress!

It's the people not the road conditions that will fuck you. Heavy traffic is the double whammy [/jimmy page] of the traffic volume doesn't allow CDOT to plow property and the simply math of more people = higher chance that one fuck stick ruins it for everyone.

I don't know where you live or where you are going but with a 5am departure you should be in front of some/many/most??? to the traffic.

But really, you should just ride with Rontele

Just came over LP going west lots of wind and snow already - my guess is it will be a long night of clusters and closures. EB traffic at 11 am at the tunnel was already slow. Have fun out there

70 is uhhhhhh a bit crazy right now. Posted in the weather thread but that was some crazy ass driving on the western side of the divide. Had the lights go out a couple times on us in the tunnel. Crazy stuff. My sister took a video of the lights going on and off.

Holidays crowds. Big snow. Big wind. US6 closed. Chain laws in place. Avalanche mitigation. The only thing missing is an I70 closure!

You gotta be realistic, the only place that is an easy drive is lala land.
