I'm using parking lot in the most literal sense. Grocery store wasn't bad and only got stuck behind one idiot that really wanted to park in the middle of north frontage road. Had to honk until they decided to use the fucking side of the road instead. Of course THEY flipped ME the bird. Clueless assholes.

They were probably high on drugs, legalizing pot has had a really bad impact on Colorado driving and parking, as you can tell by this thread.

parking/stopping for no reason in the middle of the road is normal mountain town behavior
you almost get used to it, usually they drive the speed limit, start slowing down quickly, and then just stop

I have a pic of a dude in a sonata pulling a little uhaul trailer over VP in way heavier snow than whatever is there right now. It was that snowy couple weeks from January last year. I got off i70 and had dinner got back on, and caught up to him at Eisenhower. Dude looked frazzled.

Wait no, I think he was on a tow truck at Eisenhower. Going to have to search for that.

so the sierra club has joined forces with whoever to try one last effort to stop the i70 project in denver, they of course sued cdot and the state over air quality concerns
because little johnny who lives in a soon to be completely gentrified neighborhood might get asthma from all the cars driving by
even though little johnny will soon be living in aurora because a bunch of young white upperwardly mobile yuppies will be taking his place

the laughable part is the sierra club, are those people complete idiots? don't they drive their cars to the trail head, but actually drive as far as they can to their end point of their hike so they don't have to hike that far at all? or does every sierra club member use public transportation? walk? or bike to the trail head? I am sure they have flown as many lawyers into denver as they can and that's really eco friends too

I made a critical mistake in November to apply to one of their free multi-day rafting trips if you met a certain criteria, this past November. In the about two months of application period following it waiting for a word from them, my email box was bombarded with far-left hippy bullshit. It was like 2-3 times a day, getting emails that the subject line would be like "Tryingtostaywarm HE IS NOT OUR PRESIDENT", "Tryingtostaywarm OUR PLANET IS GOING AWAY". I joined for some awesome outdoor shit and opportunities to volunteer possibly to help guide etc., in return I got all political-bullshit from them.

20+ years ago I was a Sierra Club member. I let my membership lapse, and over the next 6 months I got what seemed like a mailing a week asking me to rejoin; it was like a whole forest had to die to get me to renew my membership. They completely lost me after that.

the money they are pissing away fighting a highway project in a big city????? wtf, they could build trails, access to trails, parking areas, bathrooms, the list goes on and on, so right now they probably have spent at least 50k fighting cdot and denver. That money could be well spent taking a bunch of poor kids on a bus trip and showing them the outdoors for a summer..................... but that's not the society we live in

luckily the judge, Martinez is pretty reasonable, he is letting them have their day in court but they will not win

it's not like they are trying to put a highway through wilderness or something

as far as endangered habitat I rode around that part of town a few weeks ago, the only thing endangered around there is crack whores, junkies, homeless, and a few stray prairie dogs

I am not sure what recently passed law you're referring to, but attorneys fees have been available in environmental litigation for a long time. There is wide recognition that we need these "private attorneys general" to enforce our environmental laws, because the govt and especially private industry are not always the most trusted characters (and in the case of govt, often don't have the funding or political will). Without an attorneys fee provision, there would be no way for these suits to move forward (and while we may not like all of them, they are necessary to keep the govt and industry honest).

While I'm no Sierra Club fan, these provisions are necessary. And as for your assertion re settlement, the attorneys fees provisions I have seen do not generally cover settlement, so the Sierra Club (or whatever org) is settling because it is happy with the outcome and doesn't want to risk losing, not because it's a windfall to them. I may be wrong on this, as it's not something I have recently studied, but I knew a fair amount about this many years ago. Happy to read more if you can provide some links.
