I have a friend from a well off family from Mexico City. She used to work for Vail selling the Epic™ dream to wealthy Latin Americans. Apparently she did a good job of it.

Vail is full of super rich Mexicans and Columbians and Venezuelans.

I suspect a gas tax increase would've gone over better than a general sales tax.

Vail pretty much owned the Mexican market, until they introduced the Epic Pass.
They have steadily lost that market share since.

Nobody likes crowds and the Epic model isn’t an incentive to the one week/year vacationers.

Lots of Vail instructors with their privates skiing here this week, since their conditions and crowds suck.

the scum bag hinkenlooper appointed to head up cdot really takes the cake, all he cares about is making private investors rich and selling off public assets to the highest bidder while getting kick backs and lining his own pocket
cdot and the state/lawmakers have been arguing over a gas tax for the past few years, cdot wants to issue bonds instead of raising the gas tax, cause bonds make the rich richer, and gas taxes don't provide kick backs
on the other hand tabor, is one of the greatest things out there, if spinless dooshbag politicians would worry about something other than getting re elected or being popular we would easily be able to raise taxes. We need to vote someone in with a spine who will raise gas taxes 25 cents a gallon right off the bat and also set an impact fee ($1,500.00 a year?) for electric car registrations to offset their lack of gas purcahses, the idea that an electric hybred car gets let off the hook or they are some how special is absurd

Instead we have wasted at least a half million dollars recently on putting a sensor in volunteers cars to see if they would pay a tax based on the mile, what a waste of money, how many pot holes would half a million dollars fix?

They love Vail for the same reason we hate it.

You clearly have not a clue how tabor works, despite your claim that it is “one of the greatest things out there”

I hate those road blocks. I get why they do it, but when you're at the front of this line, it's complete torture being stuck behind it. Literally going 20mph down Vail Pass when you could be going 60.

Yes, it is a problem with democracy. There's a reason that we have a representative democracy and not a pure democracy. Because the average voter is not well-equipped to make complex policy decisions with ramifications that span decades. If pure democracy was such a wonderful thing, we'd vote on everything, and would barely need representatives. But no, that isn't the system we have, and rightfully so. If that is too complex for you or too political douche-cuntery for you, sorry.

And yes, voters sometimes make mistakes, and sometimes those mistakes are HUDGE. And pointing out those mistakes is acceptable and not some attack on our democratic systems.

I agree with danno on this. The problem is the 'representative' aspect of the republic has been subverted by big money and alleged representatives who take the big money and do as they're told.

They don't make choices based on their constituients but on keeping their overpaid government jobs and pensions by sucking big money dick and doing as they're directed.

Representing the citizen was never meant to be a career.

I think Kevo's point is valid, they're not making bank on this. But GGS does have a point, even in CO. They may not be making bug money or looking for the big pension, but certainly some are driven by money and not doing right by their constituents. The money isn't in "overpaid government jobs" (FFS, I work for the govt and could fairly easy make twice that in the private sector). But there is money available in other ways. Still, Colorado legislators are not subject to the same kind of money influence we see in federal offices.

Polis is a millionaire, and like most politicians, is drawn to the position for power. The salary of the actual State/Federal position is irrelevant when it takes a very wealthy person to now actually get the position.

Polis isn't a state congressman and he doesn't make funding decisions for road maintenance in Colorado.

My $$ reference was to the fed slugs. Yeah they like the power but the insider info they get making them millions is even bigger.

See that house.gov link? He's a federal congressman. He makes policy decisions at the national level. He isn't in the state house. He can't do anything about CDOT nor TABOR
