Hey, it could be worse, you could be driving to Oklahoma right now.

I70 closed over Vail Pass and up to tunnel multiple times today. Is dealing with this madness even worth it to ski anymore?
What is it going to take to require snow tires or AWD/4WD on I70? Two inches of snow shuts the highway down for half a day.

Requiring AWD/4WD alone doesn't solve the problem. AWD/4WD with shit tires leads to the same situation.
IMHO, the traction law should be:
- 4WD/AWD with M+S or snows (3PMSF) with sufficient tread.
- FWD or RWD with snows (3PMSF).
The problem is that even in winter, I70 is fine with all seasons and FWD 90%+ of the time.
Breezed home from LL today at 2. The shit going west was Epic[emoji769]
the traffic into breck today at 5pm was clearly epic holiday shit show fun, every boner was backed up for miles at the north and south ends up town trying to get in, barely any lines at the lifts on eight today, tomorrow will be truely epic powder though with lines and doshery to match
Westbound 70 has been closed at Empire for almost 3 hours now. Wind is causing havoc!
3" in three hours on the Loveland snow cam, and we have SNOWPACALYPSE 2017!
The level of clusterfuckery on I-70 is at an all-time high, and we haven't even had a real storm this year. Jesus.
From the CDOT Facebook:
"I-70 is closed westbound at Morrison Road. Eastbound still closed at Silverthorne. Blowing snow has caused visibility to be at only 5 feet. Eisenhower Johnson Memorial Tunnels have lost power so there is currently no control over the lights on the highway, digital message boards, and they are having difficulty connecting to the radios with crews on the ground. They’re working via cellphone to connect with our traffic operations center in Golden to get digital messages on the highway. Snow is currently falling faster than it’s possible for our plows to keep up with. We know this is incredibly frustrating. Thanks for your patience."
Visibility at 5 feet?? Really? Power out at the tunnel sounds pretty wild. Anyone stuck in this madness?
Even if you could get to Georgetown you would get turned around at the roundabout by Barney Fife and his crew of douchebag wannabe cops. The Georgetown PD is now not allowing non-residents through town to patronize local businesses during I70 closures.
The restaurants need the business during these busy times, especially after the long shoulder season.
Power is out at Eisenhower tunnels. That is pretty gnarly
Shoutout to Pho Bay Georgetown. Stopped there last night for dinner and it was some of the best pho I've had anywhere.
In other news, I70 is the lifeblood of Colorado tourism. At times like this it should be closed to vehicles that don't meet traction requirements and kept open for everyone else who is responsible enough not to drive a 2WD car on summer tires.
Times like this ... Power outages at the tunnel and 5’ visibility and your pissed the road isn’t open to open to “responsible drivers”? Tell me how well you drive when you can barely see your hood ornament
Pretty well. Drove over Vail pass in the middle of the night with 12+ inches on the ground for the 26 inch day a couple years ago. No issues at all driving through that with blizzaks

Road was fucked around 10 am this morning and certainly at 2 pm when neither visibility between gtown and the tunnel or power was an issue.
I saw one plow in the west bound jam. I saw a Subaru and some other “suv” slide at near stand still at Bakerville. Problem was rubber not meeting road properly. This storm was predicted 2 weeks ago![]()

People have lost their damn minds. The on-ramp barrier arm was put down at Vail this evening, and apparently VPD left it un-attended as I am guessing they were needed elsewhere. Somebody/bodies moved the cones and lifted the barrier to about 1/3 mast and got on the highway. Of course some others saw this partial opening and followed suit. Don't know how many got on before it got attended to, but I hope they were tied to a post and whipped.
Assuming roads are open in the morning, going to try for an early start from FtC...fingers crossed to get to LL
