As well you should be. It is glorious.

Just drove up from the D at 2p on Sunday afternoon and jfc. Floyd Hill was stacked up WB, and going down yesterday at about the same time it was backed up to almost Evergreen and further west than today. And some many people jockeying for an extra car length ahead. So many people in Denver is very noticeable (yeah, news flash right?). At some point there has got to be a crest.
Interested in seeing the tunnel numbers this weekend, going to be close to a record it would seem if not breaking it.

    Me too!

Just made friends with some New Yorkers who moved here recently and they went up to Vail for the long weekend and left at 4pm this Friday. I asked them how the traffic was (I saw it was awful on gmaps) and they just shrugged and thought it was manageable. They said at least traffic was moving and not at a dead stop like the LIE is on weekends. Guess it's all relative.

I had the bright idea to take my dog trail running at the top of Berthoud Pass today. Left home a little after 7, figured I'd be heading back early enough to miss the brunt of the traffic.

...I was somehow right this time. Traffic flowed really smoothly except for a small backup coming down into Empire on the way back.

I have less experience with summer traffic, but IME the holiday weekend traffic is interesting, Monday is usually not as bad as people expect (because many still come back on Sunday).

I think people spread out. Some come back Sunday, some throughout the day Monday. In the winter everyone heads back in the same 3-4 hour window when they finish skiing.

exactly. But it isn't a summer phenomenon (or at least not exclusively), same thing happens in the winter. Sure, there is sometime traffic on holiday weekends (especially Friday night!), but predictions of doom rarely come to pass because some come home Sunday after skiing, some spend the night but don't ski on Monday and leave in the morning, and some ski Monday and leave after that. I'd rather travel 70 any time of a holiday weekend than a normal winter weekend sunday.

What's that, something like 90 mph? Seems about normal.

Waiting for the next multimillion 'study' to be contracted with our tax dollars. It's been a few years...might create a shell corporation and push for a contract. Who's in with me?

Leaving Denver at 4 this afternoon for Snowmass with a Tacoma and 5x8 trailer (I know, bad idea). Do I take Indy? Cottonwood? Would normally follow Google Maps, but it doesn't seem to consider Cottonwood an option.

Cottonwood is closed. Going through Glenwood would be better since you have a trailer but I'm not sure how bad the backups are from the bridge being out.

Sorry for the confusion - is the Gypsum - Carbondale Cottonwood also closed? Or do you mean the BV - Almont Cottonwood? You'd think they could be a little more creative with the naming of passes... And yeah, the glenwood bridge is the big question, friday evening seems like a bad time to test it.

Does your trailer have brakes and how heavily is it loaded? Braked and light, I would probably just take my time on Indy.

I'm going thru Glenwood next Friday, late evening with a fully loaded 8 x 14'.

My bad, I was referring to the wrong Cottonwood Pass - the one by BV is closed.

Additionally that would not be a very efficient way to get to Carbondale... even if it was open.

No brakes, but light. Maybe 350 pounds not including the trailer itself. Haven't had downhill troubles, but also haven't taken it on a hill bigger than Raton pass or coming back to the front range on 285. Taco is an automatic.

The trouble with Indy, it's steep, lots of turns and it can have a fair amount of traffic, rubber necking. All which cause you to brake.
Go slow, easy on your brakes and use the engine to slow down as much as possible.
