I got a nice 50" flat screen there for $150 a while back. Deal is a deal. Hate going there though.

    I love Colorado.

People are getting better at the whole winter driving thing.....by not going up on monday and tuesday when I ride...

Except........for the flipped over old thing yesterday at closing time near Loveland pass on I70.

I rode this last Saturday, second shift, front row parking, new terrain open at the Luv, and a storm on the way that I rode in yesterday and today......= money..... you can't earn that type of awesomeness..

Express lane open on a Saturday afternoon? Yes......5 bux to lose the self metering old assholes parked in the left lane from 40 to Idaho springs...?

    on another note:

two people I know drove over wolf creek pass at night this week and reported that it was burly as hell, dark, no one around, sluff slides, one guy had to be yanked out of little slide by cdot, snowing, snow banks higher than the roof of their trucks, one even did it in 2L, but that was a chick, not sure if that counts

Interesting... $45 r/t isn't horrible, and as long as CDOT invested in snow tires for the buses, it should be a pleasant ride:

The only issue is leaving Lakewood at 6:30.... no fucking way they're getting to Vail or Beaver Creek in two hours.

I hope this can be successful and becomes widely adopted. Personally, I won't use the service.

I have used Bustang to get to vail from Denver before (the same service but more commuter oriented)

The busses are clean and comfortable, and run reasonably quickly. Biggest drawback for me was the pricing - 45 bucks round trip is way too expensive.

Of course each person decided what the right price for them is, but objectively speaking, $45 for two trips, each over 100 miles, is a reasonable deal, I think. If people think mass transportation is part of the solution, what do they expect it to cost? That same roundtrip would cost me $30 in gas.

It should be cheaper than if you drive yourself or it lessens the incentive to use mass transportation.

Not necessarily, not having to drive, comfortable seats, and perhaps breakfast service for the way up, and a bar car for the ride down the hill. It does need to be convenient, fast, predictable, and safe. Things that driving cannot promise. I would consider paying $45 per person for a trip the opposite direction to go see a show in Denver or trip to the airport. Subtract parking and you could be closer to breaking even.

ETA this was assuming we were talking train, didn't realize bus. If the bus gets an express lane maybe.

It does have access to the express lane.

I think the price needs to come down a bit, but $30-40 r/t seems in line.

Isn't the WP train $90 r/t? And it's sold out for the year.

Only eastbound. I'm talking a guaranteed lane, both directions, that might even be open even if the highway is closed.

Yeah I get ur point. That type of service doesn't really appeal to me but I guess I'd rather be in my own car than having a breakfast/car bar. I can bring those things in my own car and sit in the same traffic for half the price. I'd be all over mass transit if it was similar in cost and helped reduce traffic congestion.

It's not perfect, but its a step in the right direction.

Opening up bus lines to Summit, Eagle & Grand county from major park & rides across the metro is seriously low hanging fruit. The cost to implement is a fraction of light rail or major I70 reconstruction.

I emailed RTD last year about this and they stated that those counties are not in their jurisdiction. Perhaps if their footprint was expanded they'd be more inclined to offer some bus routes.

Depends how you define cheaper. I take the bus to work every day. Would it be cheaper if I drove? Purely on gas, yes. But wear and tear, time spent pulling my hair out in traffic vs playing on my phone/sleeping/working, also count.

On standard 50 cents/mile reimbursement, it's cheaper than driving. And being able to chill and relax has value too.
