RMSP+ holder here. I really wanted to go to WP today, but my mom in law who had something firm going on at 3:00 was watching our 16 month old. That made me gun shy. I just had to have today go well travel wise. Eldora, despite its shortcomings did not disappoint. Loads of fun and caught a few rope drops.

That being said, it looks like we could have gotten away with WP, but the downside this time was too big.

BTW: Google maps was showing 2:54 to my place from Copper. Eeessssh

WP isn't immune, I've crawled from the Jones Pass turnoff to Empire for a good 90 minutes. It can be a better option, but it's still plenty popular and subject to major delays.

Yup, pretty much SOP lately. I look to verify sometimes at work when I know for a fact that I70 is closed, yet it isn't listed on the cotrip site. Cams are down every time.

I wouldn't call US40 a shitshow, I don't see many wrecks there, and people are generally cautious and patient coming over the pass, as they should be.

Make no mistake, there is no shortage of people in the Berthoud lots, WP is a far cry from an undiscovered hill, and most of them are heading back to I70 at the end of the day. Obviously, the drive will likely be better than the tunnel or Vail, but I've been surprised many times by a 60+ minute delay coming back to Den based solely on congestion.

Plus, WP is all traverses, flats, bumps and the snow is blown to Kansas, so stay away

I think they have 1/2 the lot for nordic and 1/2 for public, but don't believe it is everyday. Maybe just M-Th or something.

Decided that I hated my M+S tires. They were fine on the highway, but anything snowpacked was awful.

Switched back to Winter tires.

And those times when they close the pass for avalanche blasting for a few hours like the other day, or when Stanley covers the road and you gotta drive the back way and still get on at Silverthorne?
