Express toll is currently trying to fuck me. I got a bill for using the express lane when the sign was reading $0.00. According to them, the lane opened at 9:00 and I was there at 9:01. They said that the sign read $4.00. They won't even accept that there could possibly be a problem with the boards switching when it opens. Fuck them, I'll take em to court over $9.00.

I've had the same experience, except for the trial period, which, I believe, displayed $0.00.

It was absolutely open this time, and I passed the sign literally less than a minute after it opened (as I was told by the toll collector). There must've been a delay in getting the amount updated, which makes total sense, but no budging from the company that has absolutely no incentive to not be fucking dicks.

As much as I hate cdot, I genuinely appreciate their new system. Mild = sit and wait, moderate = take a good lunch break, serious, severe, extreme etc. = take a nap, or if possible, go home.
I just wish cdot and CSP would recognize that true 4wd + $850 a piece snow tires is a more effective "traction device" than a tractor trailer with a single set of snow socks.

Now ...categorizing traction equipment - there's something I could buy into (along with certifying drivers to drive in the snow). One can dream.

Traction 1 in effect - 1/3 - snows, 4x4/AWD, chains
Traction 2 in effect - 2/3 - snows, 4x4/AWD, chains

Nobody has all three, and if it's that bad, shut the fucker down.

I have driven in snow for decades with only all seasons on FWD. Those are perfectly sufficient for highway snow travel. The tire have to have sufficient tread depth. Maybe, snows on RWD vehicles, but snow specific tires won't improve dumbfucks driving ability regardless the vehicle.

There is a reason why snow tires are mandatory in many places with snow covered roads. Sure many drivers are good, but you can't assume your experience is representative of all. A really skilled driver could probably get away with all season w/ RWD. Doesn't mean that should be what we should set the standard to.

My m/s tires do fine on the Tacoma. It's 4x4, but I don't really need to use 4x4 very often.
Driving up my road (steep in places, and often icy), I often see people who get stuck trying to get up the steep switchbacks, and I can usually do them in RWD with no problems.

I do know Quebec mandated snow tires (no M+S) a few years ago and they found that overall less accidents happened in winter.

+1 - I'm for severe snow rated tires within those traction laws. I'm sure CDOT could come up with some catchy jingle..."No snowy mountain on your tire? Stay home and tend to the fire".

There are some All-Terrain severe snows are out there, got 31s on my Jeep, 30K to date and holding good tread still.

The state, rental car companies, and a tire maker should develop a specific snow tire that is required to be on all rental cars in the state from Oct-April or year round. They could then sell the used or unused tires at the end of every season to local drivers at a discount.
