How does the 189 steeple 112 handle crud? Everyone keeps telling me its not nearly as good as the Billy Goat, which makes total sense..

But how does the steeple 112 compare to say an armada norwalk. The norwalk wins freeskier awards for its stability, but the steeple 112 is heavier, longer, just as stiff and more damp. Wouldnt that mean the steeple 112 is still better in crud than the armada norwalk?

Confused. Even though ill be using the steeples mainly in powder, still would like to see how they compare to armada norwalks or rossi super 7s in crud.

Hated the steeple in crud. Super 7s were actually better for me...crud is probably the last type of snow you would expect to see on s touring ski, though...

Depends on which version of the Super 7 you're talking about. The older version, with metal, actually did pretty well in crud despite the limp donkey dick tip/tail due to the metal. It might be slightly better or equal to the Steeple in chop because of that (Steeple is better in every other way though). The newer, black/orange Super 7 with no metal can't hold a candle to the Steeple in chop and crud.

    Dunno about the Norwalk.

Thanks, i meant the new black and orange ones with the hollowtip whatever.

Just wondering because i demoed the super 7 last year, and although it was definitely light and got knocked around a lot, It could still handle variable conditions in jackson if you stayed light on your feet. Not my kind of ski, but thought it would make a nice touring ski. Glad to hear that the steeple will be able to handle it if need be, like the super 7, but i was never expecting it to be a crud crusher like other on3ps.

How did you guys like the steeple in tighter situations in fresh snow? Much more relaxed than the billy goat? I went for the 189 as a touring ski, im 6'3 210, and Im thinking it will be money$$.

I honestly think ON3P's "tour" layup is pretty similar to most brand's standard layups in terms of on-snow feel, whereas the ON3P standard layup is closer to a typical metal laminate ski.

I see no issues with a 189 Steeple for a dude your size. I'd personally go 184 with no hesitation and I'm 6" shorter and 70lbs lighter.

Youre the man, thats exactly what I was trying to figure out. Sounds like the steeple 112s are awesome for my intentions.

Freeskier did not review any ON3Ps or Moments (among other brands) this year. They wouldn't have been able to compare them.

Also, I wouldn't take their reviews too seriously. Somehow they found the Rossi Slat to be a better ski than the Dynastar Slicer, despite being the same skis...

Oh for sure, i was wondering how they can rate lighter more playful skis as "chargey mcchargeson"

I've searched through some of the threads but haven't really found a good description as to why ON3P narrowed and shortened the 191 BG. Anybody have a link?

Im kind of glad they did. 189 is the perfect length for me.

    Do they ski significantly different?

No link, but probably has to do with people generally not buying anything over 189 in retail. The ski isn't really any shorter. It just has had 2cm cut off the tail.
116 is more versatile as a do anything resort ski for out west. The RES tip doesn't need a wide ski to float (as evidenced by the 112 floating like many companies 120+ ski) and 116 fits the rest of the BG story better?

I do not totally disagree with your answer, I have heard it many times before. But why not stop making short skis? The 170s are what is left in almost every model, while almost all long skis sell out? Sure maybe they make more short skis than long skis... Just food for thought.

My question is why is this years Billy goat the only ski in the line up that got heavier in the new shorter lengths, when everything else got significantly lighter?

Maybe on3p wanted the billy goat quicker and more nimble for all mountain, while still feeling relatively the same in powder?

Using the Billygoat as an example... The shorter models would be great for women, teenagers and small men. There is no Jessie version of the BG, and even if there was getting a teenage boy or man on women's skis would be a challenge.

I'd have already bought my wife a pair of the 164s if I had known we were going to Japan. Ironically, I basically spent the money for the perfect skis to bring to Japan on the tickets to get there. Oh well, we'll get a pair next year.

Side note, her daily drivers are 171 Kartel 98s with Guardians. There absolutely is a market for the shorter versions of these skis.

To add to the above, many of ON3P's skis are jib sticks, and jibbers tend to ski on shorter lengths 'cause they're easier to spin.

The retail world doesn't have the small penis problem TGR does, and 17x skis vastly outsell 19x skis, even to adult men.

Seems like she needs a pair of 17X Billy Goats, then...

Maybe? She's only 5'2". Normally buys skis in the mid 160s. Liked the Kartels a little longer than usual. The BG would be replacing 161cm CoreUPT Sonars. She likes them, but they can wear her out. 122mm might just be too wide for someone that short.

Ideally she'll get some demo time in this winter.

Just got the steeples in, and they feel much more substantial than a lot of people make them out to be. After reading some reviews I was afraid I was getting some light wimpy noodle like the soul 7 or rocker2 108. This was NOT the case at all. They are not like most other companies touring specific skis, and are MUCH burlier than a lightweight freeride model like soul 7 or rocker2 108. For sure burlier than a sfb, sick day 110 or opus as well, but thats not really saying much.

Adrenalated is spot on. They are stiffer and more substantial than many of k2s, salomons, line or rossignols standard layups, and about as stiff/subtantial as there "pro" freeride directional models, like the k2 annex 118 or salomon quest 115 but obviously a bit lighter. Honestly theyre super similar to armada norwalks in weight and flex, but more substantial feeling and durable. Again not mank-tanks like a billy goat, but you could still have a fun time in weird conditions if your a good skier and you lighten your feet up.

These will probably only ever see fresh and/or more consistent conditions in my quiver, but i bet they could be used as a great resort powder ski for a lighter skier, say 170 lbs and under. Size up though.

It is similar in flex and camber strength to my vicik, and feel about the same weight. Listed weight is similar to the 186 jeffrey 114, but they feel slightly lighter.

    This.

You'd still come out way ahead on margin vs all the wholesale biz you do.

But. They would damage their wholesale business doing so, growing a real business is serious slog and these relationships are vital.

That being said, sometimes an email or call to Scott can yield a good deal on some ex demo or prototypes.

^last years prices are really good now in the sale, these are almost as good as big brands sales prices, and considering these are much better quality skis it makes the price really a bargain!

limited sizes but the sale price has been around for quite some time now!
