    Digi Cams: Coolpics 5200?

    Hey all-

Looking at the Nikon CP 5200. Thoughts, opinions other options?

Me: Not a particularly good photographer but not bad at it either. We have 2 film cameras (EOS & mid-late 70s metal body Canon AE-1 Program) so I do not want or need a similar caliber digi. Much more interested in taking good snapshots (what those two are mostly used for) and to be able to take skiing, traveling etc... I have a basic grasp of composition and photography.

    Wife: Snapshooter only.

    Wants:
Small ~ pant pocket size preferred (maybe not jeans pocket but at least kackies pocket)
    3x zoom
    Decent for taking scenic/travel/monument shots
Decent for action sports (certainly would like a burst mode of some sort)
    Video? Not mandatory but nice.
Decent picture quality: I am no snob but I do like good looking pictures.
Somewhat durable (I'm a gear abuser, I admit it)

Other Q's: I saw that they have high speed secure digital cards, does that get you anything or just more money?

    Accessories I'm likely to get/need?

    --------------------------------------------------------

Basically, I'd like somebody to either confirm my suspicion that this'll be a decent camera for me for the $$ ($216) or tell me another camera for about the same price that'll blow it out of the water.

    thankee.

Basically there are two or three main manufacturers of SD cards (there might be more now). Everyone else rebrands. I think the two main guys are SanDisk and Panasonic. Get a Panasonic card. I have a rebranded card (can't remember the name). Same card, cheaper price. As for the higher speed cards, usually the gating factor is the camera. Some can take advantage of the faster cards, and some can't. There is a ton of info, just google.

One thing with smaller and cheaper digi cams, make sure they turn on quick and the pic to pic time is quick..

got to best buy or something and play aorund with them... then go on-line and get a good price.

I had an olyympus c4000 it took amazing pics. however was slow when turning on 10-20 sec (which is a lot)

got a sony now a w1, and while the quality of pics is less I think I like it better since its smaller and it takes <1sec to turn on.

deal on an cannon s410 today, an s410 + a pda for like 280 at dell
