Bottom line is like all things cool, the ski bum culture has been monetized and sold to the masses. Whether Sean White, TGR, Burton, Subaru, or your local real estate agent, they are all in the game of selling shit out for money and to feed their narcissistic tendencies. All Art, music, and culture starts pure, gets sold out, then turns into nothing more then a way for large corporations to cash in. This is where skiing is now and most of you do not even know that you support it.

I am profoundly disturbed by the hypocrisy of POW. A bunch of globe trotting, gas guzzling narcissists justifying all with some abstract notion of fighting global warming. Do as I say not as I do...... It is the new model of cashing in, attaching oneself to a worthy cause so as to not suffer from white mans guilt.
I can dig that theme and to a certain extent we are all or most of us are exploiting the well being of the world around us to "cash in". No one can claim they don't have some blood on their hands. One idea worth mentioning is that in order to change the system or the machine you have to become part of that same system or machine. I'm not disagreeing with you I'm just playing the devils advocate a little for the sake of fun discussions.

Yeah, I get it, unless you are Ted Kazinsky you are operating in the system. But come on, if you wanna create a facade of being some green warrior type then do more then globe trot with your bros. Make a community garden in Jackson, maybe do a go pro of you and three of your bro's carpooling to a trailhead in a honda civic, show the world that their are spines on Ferry Peak to ride that didn't require a fucking 737 and 500 pounds of CO2 to get to, recycle some gear, be a vegan, do something real in other words, push for a bike path in your hometown then ride it.

what is so funny about that? Everybody knows a meat eater has twice the carbon footprint as a vegan. If individuals want to "protect our winters" then the one easy thing they can do is stop eating meat. I think JJ would make a great spokesman for going vegetarian wouldn't ya say? Put yer money where your mouth is, or what goes in the mouth!

Meh, I'm on the Alfred Packer Donner Party Diet! Slowing saving the world one hippie at a time, could reduce my carbon footprint if it wasn't so hard to wash off the patchouli.

You guys are late to the game. He's been posting rants like this for some time on outerlocal.com

So ridiculous. A business actually selling a product? What sellouts!

If you enjoy this article, check out another one of Max's controversial pieces here:

This piece ^, on uphill skiing I can agree on... For the most part

It's too bad the guy can't write worth a smelly shit. The concept holds a lot of promise. Just in this very thread we see the kinds of bullshit trustafari smug superiority that hangs out there, like a slow-walking fat kid waiting to be pelted with snowballs on that day when the snow packs just right -- not icy and bone-breaking, not fluffy and fall-apart, but just right.

You can always tell who's a pampered trustafarian, a nouveau riche money-for-nothing dickweed who retired at 30, or a clueless aspirant to the prior two classes -- they're cunting up this thread with their apologies for TGR's bullshit downward trajectory, saying it's good to ruin a sport for many participants if a handful of them can cash in and live as if they'd been born with the trust fund, the silver spoon, or the daddy's business to inherit at age 21.

dunfee is a shitty writing turd, and deserves skewering, but sadly our author here wasn't up to the task, and the weak self-parody attempt via references to contrails, they don't bring the funny and don't hurl the scathe in real critical comedic fashion.

sorta reads like rideit's or kidwoo's high school locker room "humor", though it's funnier than either of those two Heroes of TGR.

I think I agree with Doobie Brother:

Please remember to donate to Protect Our Winters: we need more money to totally save the planet!"

oh and this piece of funny,

"All introductions aside, it truly is newsworthy that TGR recently called out Shaun White for being a sellout because TGR sold out long ago and has played a prominent yet pathetic role in the covert corporate takeover of snow sports and adventure culture ever since.

It’s time for TGR to realize that their shit stinks too…"

    Hilarious article.

I really thought the Ryan DUnfree Shaun White article sucked balls.
TGR fanbois remind me of the deluded dipshits who would apologize for Obama from their deathbed after getting hit by a Holder-Chertoff Drone despite absence of real terrorism. "Obama is black, progressive, and means well."

Yeah right. That's so funny. Like rideit/kidwoo funny. Like Will Ferrell funny. All the stuck-in-8th-grade-immaturity bro-brahs find it funny, dood!

well said, these apologists either are part of the wealthy elite or long to sell out to this class. Or they are just to fucking stupid to see what is going on around them. I have the least patience for the stupid ones; muddling their way to pay their exorbitant rent, standing in ever lengthening lift lines, paying out the nose for the newest coolest outerwear, licking ballsack at their table waiting job, longing for one of those ten non paying TGR internships, all the while the landscape around them getting drilled and sold off for trophy homes.

I read it. He's actually pretty funny as long as he's not conspiracy theorizing...

" 9. Touring Rendezvous Mountain is great for your physical fitness. A typical day of skiing at JHMR involves a 400-800m clomp in boots, an hour or two standing in lift lines or squashed into the tram, an hour or two of skiing, a 5-30 minute hike or two (if you're hardcore!), an exceptional number of 12oz arm curls, perhaps a little dancing, and -- if you're lucky -- a rigorous session of pelvic thrusts. A typical day of touring at Rendezvous Mountain involves several hours of uphill skinning, bootpacking, and schralping followed by the requisite 12oz arm curls, perhaps a little dancing, and -- if you're lucky -- a rigorous session of pelvic thrusts. Long, slow, uphill voyages are great. Slow Ride: take it easy!"

looks like Bink Hildreth IV on one side of the ping-pong table, and Shmuel Golan-Berkovitz on the other side

whenever the ball flies off the table, they interrupt play to buy new paddles and balls from Shmuel's cousin, Sandor Hack-Phlegm, who has an artisanal Table Tennis Equipment boutique downtown selling paddles starting at $129.95 each and packs of 4 balls (plain white variety) starting at $48.95, and tweeting about the blow-by-blow while we wait for Shmuel to ride his Segway down to Sandor's boutique, because that's just how pretentious and naive, spoiled, entitled fucktards show the rest of us how it's done

You know what's even greener than being a vegan? Suicide. Heck, if you go on a killing spree you eliminate a whole bunch of carbon footprints. Pol Pot was an environmentalist at heart, but Hitler, Stalin and Mao set the bar so high... That's the responsible choice. But I prefer pork.

Dude had some valid points. I espiecally like the line "once you've sold your soul, you may as well sell everything else"- I know he didn't come up with that line but it was golden.

The article by RD was a terrible, and dumb article. Also a I can agree with the whole JJ self-apotheosis, the man is close to removing his lower ribs. I mean he's a ok shredder, but nothing compared to legends.

But I don't get the guy's point about the mindless tgr movies- what ski point movies have subplot and character development?

All i fucking know is that Jackson was played out 15 yeas ago when Doug Coombs left for Europe n shit. When TGR first released the continium the Mangy Moose was the biggest building in the village and walk on fifty person trams were the norm. Now the place is Vail, it is completely over run by wealthy dropouts from the east coast, tracked out so fast. Is there a correlation? of course there is, some got rich, lived a carbon intensive lifestyle along the way and now are claiming to have found some green god. Why? a way to continue to fund their globetrotting ways while burrying their white man guilt for their sins against the earth. Jackson Hole has the highest number of non profits on the planet ya know, why is this? Because the wealthiest elitist multi generational 1 percenters suffer in a guilt ridden existence for the sins of themselves and their fathers, grandfathers and so on.
