Glad this thread didn't turn into the usual mess like a skier trigger. Feel for this group after the CAIC report, as it appears they were trying to behave given the conditions.

Really, that's what you got from the CAIC report?

    Ever rode there?

They weren't very from the trailhead or even the county road/trail. Could see a flatlander having a false sense of security where they were at.

Trying to "behave" on 35-40 degree slopes during high avalanche danger while playing around with 400 pound triggers?

I appreciate that they may not have known what they were getting into, but I don't see how sidehilling steep slopes (did you look at the pictures?) is trying to "behave" given the conditions.

Trigger mania, you might find one…..and you'd better lightly tap the rollover.

Pictures were scary, written said they played around on low angle for awhile and then headed up the pass.

Trailhead is weird and/or deferent than most places as it's 6 to 9 miles from where they should have been riding, and is literally a 2 lane dirt road in summer. Davenpor drove a Bentley on it to get to Irwin Cat Skiing in the winter, so that's what's got me thinking false sense there. We're here next to this big busy trail, maybe we're ok.

Before the report, I figured it would end up being a high mark screwup up near Irwin lake.
