    Bariloche, Argentina beta please

Thoughts turning toward summer trip to SA. Past two years we've visited LL and Portillo. If the the lure of of going back to LL can be avoided Bariloche is on the wish list. Any info would be appreciated. Is the skiing worth missing out on LL?

I second this request! Especially any info on huts or touring near Bariloche.

My gf and I will be in Argentina in August - booked our tickets yesterday. Hoping to start off in Bariloche and end up in LL.

I spoke with teamdirt a while back and he said Bariloche was pretty great. I'm hoping to get some more info from him next time I see him.

I lived in Argentina for awhile but never skied because of the mission I was serving. I read all the Articles and smut about ski areas that I could and came up with the hypothesis that Bariloche is comparative to Park City or some other groomer capital of skiing. Not too much vert. and it's not in the same Mountain Range as LL. Now you have been to LL at Portillo. Which is more expensive? I am planning a trip (not this summer dammit) and would like to hear from those who have been to either.

Have you been to sierra nevado en Chile? I have a magazine right here that shows absolutely no one but NorteAmericanos skiing the offpiste. I am sure that is how LL is at times also.

Have you been to los molles just north of LL? Did you camp there or stay cheap? Enjoy the hot springs? Ski there? Just me full of questions also

First, it's not "beta." It's just information. Beta is a defunct video cassette recorder format, and that's all.

Do some searches-- there are a lot of theads.

I've been there twice with the late Reverend and Sir Cleetus, and we'll just say that it doesn't suck. Comparing it to park city is a little silly, it turns out, although I can sorta imagine why a buck rookie or someone who isn't in to exploring would think so. If you're in to purely lift-served, then god help you in SA, in general.

We've loved it every time, and we're not exactly in to the Park City scene.

The town and surrounding area is simply stunning in scenery, talent, and some of the genuinely nicest people on the planet.

I'd go back. In fact, I bet I will.

Slightly OT, but for some good general beta on Argentina and Chile, check out the latest issue of Backcountry magazine.

There is a great article written by Brian Mohr on a month's ski journey. Fun to follow the trip from Santiago south to Chillan and then some volcanoes and the pass into Argentina (Bariloche/San Martin de los Andes) down south to Esquel. Further south crossing back into Chile at Chile Chico and then returning north through Chile/Argentina back up to Las Lenas area.

Most of it is backcountry skiing (duh), but it's a great trip.

Not really. Unless park city has disco´s open until 7am. And since when did Las Lenas move outside the Andes?

Bariloche´s a resort town on the side of Lago Nahuel Huapi, a quite large (40mile long) lake in the Andes near the border with Chile in the northern portion of Patagonia generally termed ¨the Lake District¨ Until the 60´s or so it was the mountain resort for Argentine elite, but´s now been surplanted by nearby San Martin de Los Andes for that set, and Bariloche is now the destination for every high school graduate in Argentina. An Argentine friend described them as ¨Tasmanian Devils¨ they come, they destroy, they move on.

For a honeymoon hotel checkout the Llao-llao (it´s nearby). As for hut skiing (does everyone fíng ask this now?) Checkout the Club Andino de Bariloche. Both of the above have websites.

... I've been there twice with the Rev and Cletus, and once for a very memorable trip with Adolf Allerbusch, who, apparently, still lurks!
