Ok, got twisted around early this morning in some nice light low density snow, POP went I am just about positive my MCL. I am ACL deficient from previous ski injury and wear a Don Joy custom brace, happened 15 years ago. Not much pain or swelling but definitely unstable on the medial side The brace allowed me to ski down, but I am bummed.Have a Sports Medicine appointment with Dr Lewis at Foothill Clinic on South Highland tomorrow. Understand that MCL's seldom require surgery. Fear from the pop and instability is it is Grade 3. Anybody have experience with this injury and anybody know Dr Lewis?
My old lady is just about fully healed up from her mcl full tare about 10 weeks ago, surgery was not required. She should be back skiing here any day now. Keep that shitty brace on as much as you can handle it, lots of ice, physiotherapy, and do what the doc tells ya. Oh and don't do what I did, and get all liquered up, and think you can hit the dance floor, it really slows down progress
I dont know Dr Lewis, but I do know grade 3 MCL sprains.
I had a hamstring graft to reconstruct mine last April. Doc said it depends on the way that it is torn, but he gave me the impression that grade 3 means reconstruction if you are an athlete. frequently they just pop right near the attachment point, and can just be tacked back down and then they heal nicely.
Mine wasnt so easy, it snapped in the middle and was worthless. My destroyed MCL was removed, and reconstructed with the hamstring tendon. Its been a long recovery, still not at all 100%, but it is getting there.
Stay cool, wait for the MRI, and take it as it comes. Best of luck to you.
