Ripple is interesting, check this out. They have their own currency, XRP, but theirs seems to be designed more as a platform to let others build applications on it. American Express launched their own Ripple based product for corp customers.
But read this, from wikipedia Ripple page...

START WIKIpedia quote. taken from here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ripple_(payment_protocol)
    The Bitcoin Bridge[edit]
The bitcoin bridge is a link between the Ripple and bitcoin ecosystems. The bridge makes it possible to pay any bitcoin user straight from a Ripple account without ever needing to hold any of the digital currency. Additionally, any merchant accepting bitcoins has the potential to accept any currency in the world. For example, a Ripple user may prefer to keep money in USD and not own bitcoins. A merchant, however, may desire payment in bitcoin. The bitcoin bridge allows any Ripple user to send bitcoins without having to use a central exchange such as BTC-e to acquire them.[28][104] Bitstamp acts as a gateway for the Ripple payment protocol, among other exchanges.
    END WIKIPEDIA quote.

Sounds to me like it would enable anybody to accept payment and store value in bitcoin, yet pay in any currency they want without having to hold any of the currency. And do it without a bank.

To those who asked about home mining. Here's the power issues I was referring to.

By 2020 more electricity than the entire world combined to "mine" a "coin"

    I had no idea....holy shit.

By July 2019, the bitcoin network will require more electricity than the entire United States currently uses. By February 2020, it will use as much electricity as the entire world does today.

This is where I was going earlier. The applications for the block chain tech are crazy big. IBM has huge investment in block chain. NASDAQ is considering it. I think it's the etherium (however it's spelled too lazy to look) that those folks are more interested in. I think that's the more.ledger based one so would make sense for fast, no cost money transfers for stocks, etc with a real paper trail. Least that's my VERY limited understanding.

Correction is going to come. I'm guessing as soon as the futures opens next week the big players will start shorting the crap out of it to pop the bubble.

I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

People buy the top because they tired waiting for the correction that doesn't come. There was one from 8 to 5, and I missed that one, and have been waiting ever since. there was a smaller one down to 9 from 10.5 or so, and should have grabbed that one. But.... where is the big correction? I am waiting...

    it hit 12875 ? wow.

I think i'm up over 100% but I only check it about once a month.

I have some walking around money in there mainly in case bitcoin goes mainstream for nearly all forms of payments.

I just put in a sell order at 50K just in case something silly happens on my way home. Watching this go up about 2k in a day (which is not over) is crazy.

Financial industry's wet dream, huge market they can play in and manipulate as much as they want as long as they're careful about mixing coins and how they exchange crypto for fiat.

Satoshi is king hodlr. If he's as real about economic disruption as I've read, I wonder if he'll wait for everything to be mined for maximum scarcity, then rain down his huge stash to decrease valuation and maybe increase staiblity.
