A country can still sell debt whether it is using fiat dollars, gold standard dollars, or Bitcoin.

The concern with fiat is that money will be printed to inflate away the debt, which is something that did not happen.

Heck, other countries issue US dollar denominated debt (so from their perspective it is hard money, they can not print it to inflate it away). That has not stopped places like Argentina from running up the tab.
