Hey, just a thought, but maybe when one good in particular is becoming ever more expensive relative to all the others, then ‘printing money out of thin air’ isn’t a very good explanation for the phenomenon?

Housing keeps getting more expensive (mostly) because of barriers that prevent building adequate supply.

Who do you think was keeping the barriers up while they bought up all the housing supply with the free money they gave themselves?

Even Bunion capitulated and gave congrats to the Mags today. Yet you continue to double down on stupid.

I'm with this guy. I'm glad folks are making $$ on their BTC investments.

I still wouldn't touch it with a 10' pole, though.

NIMBY’s bought up all the housing supply and they were given free money to do it?

Look, I don’t hate people who win some money betting on a basketball game, but I can still believe that widespread legalized gambling is bad in general.

But also, at least the people betting on basketball understand what they’re betting on (for the most part)?

Welcome back and congrats to Stalefish for witnessing 100K. Lots of entertainment to be had watching the same two people on opposite ends of the spectrum be consistently wrong about crypto but for different reasons. It's not crypto versus the dollar. It's crypto and the dollar.

Stalefish, at least, gets to be wrong on the upside. America has more to gain from bitcoin and crypto than any other country. Crypto gets people the dollar — which they clearly want — and bitcoin also gets people out of the overly-regulated dollar system, which they also want. The combined dollar/crypto/bitcoin monetary system will likely displace a lot of the world's small and mid-tier currencies.

    ^^^ Maybe.

I really don't care if America benefits to the detriment of the rest of the world. And while some feel that we have an overly regulated dollar system, such things tend to minimize volatility.

There are almost 20 Million BTC in circulation. A lot of those were created at exceedingly low valuations and nobody really knows who controls them. If I owned 10,000 BTC that I got for $ 3500 I would be willing to spend a few million dollars pumping up the price.

But I don't, so pass the popcorn.

BTC is not a currency per se. Dollars and dollar backed crypto are the currency system. Bitcoin is the proverbial camel's nose under the tent. When bundled with dollar backed crypto it gets people in and out of the dollar, allowing some protection from federal overreach while still offering the many benefits of the dollar system

There wasn't a windows 96 btw. And the bitcoin whitepaper is behind a paywall for important reasons.

They can now use the messages to pursue further investigations, according to a post from Europol. Over a dozen homes were searched across Lithuania, Spain, and France, and three people have been arrested. Four cars, 970 phones, and a house were also seized, along with over $500 million in crypto and over $150,000 in cash.

Shortish article about what the Bitcoin lobby is trying to get out of from the government that they helped elect.

This article is so fucking stupid, but par for the course from Jong I suppose.

Dude first cries about Sherrod Brown losing. Here is why his loss was not a bad thing. Brown was abusing his power and had a huge part in Operation Choke point 2.O in which politicians were lawlessly trying to kill crypto.

There are lots of other horrible parts of the article, but one of the worst is when Cooper calls the Bitcoin market "exceptionally illiquid." My dude, BTC is one of the most liquid markets on Earth. You can buy and sell 24/7 365 from anywhere. The market can absorb large buys and sells as well. Heck, the German government sold 4B dollars worth of BTC over a short period of time just a few months ago and the market soaked it right up. Seems pretty liquid to me. Definitely a lot more liquid than the many "50k price reduced!" homes for sale sitting on Zillow right now which is the medium many Americans hold as their store of value.

“It’s easier to buy and sell Bitcoin than to buy and sell a house, ergo it’s very liquid” is definitely up there with the stupidest fucking arguments you’ve ever made.

I want to contribute some more but going skiing, maybe tomorrow.

    Meanwhile:
Donald Trump is assembling the wealthiest administration in history—collectively worth over $330 billion and counting—while targeting massive cuts in public spending.

Wealthy MAGA loyalists and backers dominate the president-elect’s nascent Cabinet, and more billionaires are being earmarked for top positions.
Sounds like a drift towards autocracy and rule by Oligarchs. But that has worked so well for the regular people so what me worry.
