A tip: Shoot avalanche howitzer, then smoke crack...not vice versa.

The local Fox news affiliate had a story tonight about a 105 mm. howitzer shell that landed next to someones house in Pleasant Grove, Utah, which is down in the valley, after apparently getting away from an avie crew miles away up in Provo canyon. I didn't catch the whole story but it definitely fucked some shit up.

That must have been a nice wake up call.

"Honey, could you please hit the snooze button on the howitzer?"

    ---

    "911 What is your emergency?"

"We've got incoming!!! We need counterbattery fire and close air support ASAP!"

"Sir, prank calling 911 is a crime."

"I'm not fucking kidding! They are shelling my house! Incoming! Where is my airstrike?"

    ---

I always thought it would be mildly amusing if the terrorists got an avalauncher and started shelling Breckenridge.

    ---

I heard one time an avalauncher took out a lift shack somewhere.

    ---

If the hippies are dug into the smoke shack, can you call for fire from ski patrol?

Our gang in Leysin does not dare pull that shit here.

    They might shoot back

M.......; the shell went over the top and landed a few yards from the highway as a greyhound bus was driving by!!! --It did not make the papers or the 6 o'clock news!!!
name of mountain has been partially omitted to protect those involved!!

    That's an interesting story.
A few years ago, I noticed a welded bar above the barrel of one of the Bird's howitzers as they were shooting their routes. Evidently, that particular gun has the power to easily shoot over the mountain and into the valley. The bar was permanently welded into place to prevent the barrel from being raised high enough for the ordinates to reach the valley. I thought it was kind of silly and paranoid at the time, but now it doesn't sound so silly.

"Investigators say they found a detonator in a six foot hole in the yard. They believe the artillery shell actually landed in the backyard and detonated."

Well, I guess that family has a leg up on that swimming pool they were thinking of putting in.

"They believe the artillery shell actually landed in the backyard and detonated. "

What? They couldn't tell whether it detonated in the back yard? I'd think that it's detonation would be fairly cut and dried.

I saw that story too, apparently there was a toddler playing in the back. That sucka left a huge hole in the ground. Last time I was at Basin I spoke with a guy who lives in Ogden near the foothills on the eastside, he mentioned Basin always lobs those things over the mountain and they land near his house.

A story I've heard is that some years back WDOT was blasting Glory, overshot the target and hit a lift up at the village. Can anyone confirm? I think it was posted here at one time.

Park City doesn't use howitizers anymore since they kept lobbing them over Jupiter Peak and into the 10420 and Brighton area.

    Exclamation

Heard about that this morning from one of the Alta gunners.

    Talk about a fuck-up.

Didn't a gunner crew at Big Sky overshoot Lone Peak once? I heard that somewhere...

Have heard plenty of stories of Alta lobbing them over Catherine's and Wolverine toward Brighton on numerous occassions. Yeah, I know, Brighton...no big loss.

Cripes... I freak out if I launch a golf ball off the course and in to traffic.
WTF do you yell when you're launching a 105mm shell into somebody's back yard?
