FS: Canon 80-200L F/2.8 Magic Drainpipe

I've written this listing and never posted it at least a few times over the past couple years. I hate to do this but I can't justify keeping this dreamboat of a lens on my shelves any longer since acquiring the 70-200 2.8II last winter. Besides, it's not fair that a lens this good sits idle.

It was my first L lens and I know I will always have a soft spot for it. If you're looking to get a phenomenal f/2.8 telephoto zoom, this may be the ticket. If you've never heard of this lens do a little googling. It's an oldie, but a definite cult classic. One of the best perks is that it's not white and when you operate without the lens hood it could almost pass as inconspicuous.

Photos are coming soon but I'm posting it here before it goes on Fred Miranda. TGR special gets you the lens with a Tamron 2X teleconverter (the new Canon TCs do not fit this lens). Hell I'll even throw in a B&W MRC UV filter ($40 value).

I also have a Canon 500D 72mm Close Up lens which lets this 80-200 function as a pretty useful and fun macro lens. $100 for the 500D.

I have a genuine Canon tripod mount (think I paid almost $80 for it) and the original hood. Optics are pretty dang close to a 10/10. A couple pieces of dust inside but nothing I've ever seen affect image quality. Cosmetics are probably 7/10, some wear from handing over the past 19 years (date code of 1994) and some knicks here and there. I bought the lens in this condition 3 years ago and haven't added any damage. I actually send it to Midstate Camera in Rhode Island to do a general tuneup on it as I thought the barrel was a little loose. Turns out it was a worn out mount on my old DSLR but they took it apart and tightened it up nonetheless.

$625 including shipping/paypal for the lens, TC, and UV Filter
$100 including shipping/paypal for the Canon 500D Close up Filter

Hit me up with any questions and when I take pictures (so much pressure to execute stellar product photos on Fred Miranda) I will post them up.

Feel free to price police if you enjoy it or feel I need it but I tried to price this fairly with a little comparison research.

It's an awesome lens. One that I've bagged a ton of great ski shots with. However a couple considerations if you already have the 70-200 f4 non-is. The focusing motor is the 80-200 is the generation prior to USM, which is what your lens has. As for the TCs, doesn't your lens work with Canon TCs? The 80-200 works with the Tamron TC I'm including with it but will not work with Canon TCs.

That said, this lens is 2.8, something an f4 lens will never be. And it's black. And it's all metal.

(beating my head on the desk)

Why god did I spend so much on xmas vacation...

If you still have this in 3-4 months, PM me. Seriously. I've been quietly looking for a drainpipe for a while, but the expendable budget has ebbed and flowed all at the wrong times.
I've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

It may very well still be around in 3-4 months. I left the 70-200 at home this past Sunday and brought the drainpipe along. It's awesome. There's just something about the images that I love.

Drop me a line when your at the right place in your "cycle"

10-4. The cycle lines up with the tax man giving me my money back, and some backyard pool repairs not bankrupting me.

Really tempted by this. Currently have a 70-200 f4 non is. How much of a difference does the older motor make?

Drainpipe and extras are sold to Tye.

500D is still available and it's really awesome if you have any interest in playing around with macro photography. Works surprisingly well and I'm happy to post examples. I also have a step down ring that I believe goes from 72mm to 67mm so you can use it on a smaller lens.

    I'll be buying another 500D, I just need a 77mm size for my 70-200

Just unpacked it, first lens purchase, stoked! Then a little gripped, how am i going to start the conversation about the small specks/scratches on the front optic/lens? fuckfuckfuck

oh. right. it came with a filter...damn jong...

everything is in as good or better shape as described, can't wait to get some time with it! Zoom ring just turns like butter. Damn thing is heavy tho! More than all my other camera equipment combined, including charger/cord!

superstoked. Reminded me of my old '83 Benz, with the real wood trim and fine Corinthian leather...
great seller, awesome communication and shipping/packing.

Good lord. My stomach dropped when I started reading this. So glad you're digging the lens! It is a sexy beast, no doubt about it, but it is most definitely a beast.

Enjoy and if I ever get out to Idaho I want some visitation rights!
