    give a ring!
don't sweat it gonzo, snow level will drop to lake level and below - 4500 - by this afternoon as cold front sweeps in behind all this warm moisture.....

i plan to ski Alpine Thur/Fri and hit Tallac for some BC Sat if interested...

This "forecast" is making me quite nervous. It's 9 am and still raining, about 37 degrees at the Truckee airport. It was supposed to change back to snow at sunrise......keep your fingers crossed for a plummeting snow level.

I was at Alpine. Was using an REI ticket that my sis gave me for xmas. They never scanned it so I can use it again. Suckas!
It was sweet. Not super deep but good enough. Got heavy really fast once it gets tracked at all. Strong sun this time of year, even through the clouds.

Lane - the snow levels are expected to drop. Here's a graph from www.snow-forecast.com of the snow levels for Sugar Bowl (which I think has the lowest base level of all the Tahoe resorts):

Yeah, I know, ordinarily I'd be all fired up to even be getting precip at this time of the year, but comeing on the heels of yesterday, rain is hard to stomach. Such is life in Tahoe, that's the price you pay for the terrain and the dumps - we get rain at the base more often than we'd like.....

I have faith though. Tomorrow will be off the hook for sure.

    Updates:

*Gonzo called me from Mt. Rose - 3' + of dry blower, 8 people lapping the chutes. Dumping

*Alkasquawlik said that Huckasoreass was skiing on 1973 Stinger waterskis at Squaw, and was loving it. Everyone on skinnier skis (re: everyone else on Earth) was not loving it. Good turns to be had at the top for about 4 turns, though.

*I just got back from ~7300' in Tahoe-Donner, and it was more or less blizzarding up there - strong winds, heavy snow, and cold temps.

    *NWS says:

    URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE

I'd like to see that in person It worked in AK or BC or wherever it was Shane skied them, so I guess it might as well work at Squaw.

I've seen both of them out on the Stingers several times this year, and yes, they work very well. Although those two could be skiing on 2x4s and they would still rip.

If you think about the design concept of the Spatula, it is pretty much exactly like a waterski, and in fact I think (?) those Stingers were used to dimension the original Spatulas (which Huckasoreass still skis on). The only major differences are the flex pattern and the metal edges, which are useless in pow anyway.

The only thing that bugs me about my Spatulas is the fact that they took away the picture of the actual spatula they had on the original design (at least that's where I think it was). Nothing screams GNAR more than kitchen tool graphics on your skis.

I think that was only on the first three pairs made before they started to mass produce them. But I agree, and furthermore, I lobbied (hard) for it to say "morning wood core" on the topsheet too, for what it's worth....I failed.

That rain was a bit of a surprise, but the waterskis ruled today. So fast and floaty. But I hope anyone on fatties enjoyed that snow--it was still hero stuff down to Fingers elevation. Even my fiancee was all fired up. And best yet? You'd ski right back onto KT. No one out. A lot of stuff ripped out again, though. And unfortunately, although they were calling for nuking winds today, it wasn't anything of the sort. Windy at the top of KT, but not strong enough to buff anything out. Hopefully they'll pick up. It sure is pounding out there right now...From what I've seen, it looks like tomorrow might be a bit of low vis, snowing-type day that'll keep the huckfest under wraps, but it should still be a lot of fun. Again.

As far as my Spatulas, they're the same as everyone else's.

    i am just gigantic then.

Maybe the lack of yellow butter graphic played an optical illusion. Or I am losing all perceptive ability, which is pretty likely.

No rain at Tahoe's highest base, Slide Mountain (Mt Rose) was killer today. It wasn't light 'n dry but it was sweet. As usual the wind was working its magic. Uncut runs from 10:30 to 3:00 and that's no exaggeration. Glad everyone loves the Chutes, the place to be on a pow day . Too many people though, WTF were all the Squaw folk doing here?? I rode up with quite a few, never see Squaw folk here.

It was puking at 3:PM so tomorrow morning should be awesome. Snow level was right around 7000' on the drive home. Seemed kinda high to me.

Unclear....still have to see about changing my ticket (date/time possible but not departure city) and there's a small local area putting on a freeskiing contest this weekend that I might hit up. If not, I could be in Tahoe as soon as Sun or Mon, which means I'll probably miss you anyways.
As far as guiding goes, I can help with KW but NorthLake you must have any of the far more local people help out. Beware, many of the goods at KW lie beyond snowboard-proof traverses!
