Midwest fishing

Alright here goes, I'm an exiled high country kid living in the greater Chicago area. Anyone have experience out here. I've fished Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa but tying to lit travel time. Any pointers would be helpful

Isn't there some sort of lake nearby? I lived in Chicago for about 6 years and my only real exercise was biking the lakefront trail up and down Lincoln/Grant Park. I used to see plenty of anglers along the breakwaters and the numbers would soar into the hundreds (maybe thousands) when the salmon were milling around the shore. I wasn't fishing in those years but I'd stop and watch guys pulling in some big fish. My friend who fly fished out of Chicago went to the creeks and small rivers of Indiana and southern Michigan for the runs of lake salmonids. Said some of the creeks got so stacked with small steelhead that he'd get up to 30 takes in a day of nymphing egg patterns under an indicator

Yeah, I'm straight on a trout stream, I've been reading up on fishing in the area bit looking to link up with someone with a little know how in big water Great Lakes fishing.

I'm going on my second summer in Chicago and want to get back into fly fishing. Snapt, I'm planning on going to see Andy at Chicago Fly Outfitters to get setup and hopefully get more educated on fishing in the area. I would appreciate any other local tips that the collective may have.

People using spinning rods/reels are catching Browns and some Coho from the breakwater (and other locations ) in Milwaukee.
