Yeah there were a bunch of places in MT that were -60 to -68 wind chill. I think our place was "only" -45ish. I just got pipes unfrozen and have a battery on the charger since neither of our vehicles will start which means no ski hill for me. I even let it run for awhile yesterday. Oh and the new puppy keeps peeing in the house cause his paws freeze instantly outside. I have a short memory because I got my last puppy and then we had a solid week and a half of 30 below. Gotta love Montana!

We had a low of 3 and a high of 10. So not too bad until you factor in the 38% relative humidity and wind gusts to 54 mph.

    Today is a balmy 20.

Skied yesterday and it was -12f mid mountain, only thing really cold was my big toes. I think that’s about as low as I would ski. Something bad happens and you’re going to get hypothermia really quickly. I’m not sure if any wax works at that point, the snow was like Velcro.

Yeah, the grabby snow annoys me way more than the cold temps.

High of +4F here today currently at -2. Snowing like a mofo. At least the snow is feather light so I’m waiting until AM to blow the remainder away.

3000’ up the hill, Mt Bachelor is 20 degrees warmer.

This cold is exhausting when you've got livestock to care for. At least I'm not like the poor cattle ranchers who are currently calving. Nothing like having to thaw out calves that are frozen to the ground.

High of 5 today. -20 wind chill.

Tomorrow is supposed to be a balmy 19.

My cats are driving me insane. They are screaming. Fighting. Begging to go out. I let them out into the garage but they don't like that.

I’ve always thought ranch life must be a bitch when the temps are like that.

Ski touring at -27C (-17F). Late start, cabin (with fire) for lunch, and early finish. Idyllic on sunny windless aspects, but otherwise took everything we had to keep hands and feet functioning.

I am from Alberta and ya, fuck Montana too.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

I'm always amazed how any wildlife can survive in these places when it gets so damned cold.

Went out @ 1000 to blow off the driveway @ temp = 7f
90 minutes later the Subie, my driveway and the widow’s next door was clear of 18” snow.
Pulled out the bong for a well-deserved rip.

Colder than a witch’s tit out there.

Came home from skiing to my wife telling me the main floor of our house has no heat. Upstairs and basement are fine. Temp down to 57 inside and -5 outside. Boiler and baseboards.

Finally gave up trying to fix it and called my plumber. He thinks we have a frozen spot in the baseboard loop. Now heating up the main floor by blasting the basement and some space heaters. Up to 64 but still no water moving.

Could be nasty when it finally thaws if the pipes burst.
