Bittersweet possible final TR from Mammy. I am not sure if I will get back up again before I have to find a new home-move-etc.
I am a day late, but you know what they say…
Monday and Tuesday were very warm and sunny. Beautiful Cali skiing. Coverage is pretty good for pre-thanksgiving. I’d say there’s about 2-3 ft base. It’s been windy so it’s hard and there are some spots blown down to rock on north and west facing. Eastern aspects have a bit of forgiveness. You will even hit a bit of soft(ish) chunky crud in some of the seams between the spines off Scotty’s and Cornice.
Lower mtn groomers like stump alley under chair 2 and broadway are smooth and very fast. Very few people in the early season on Monday means the radar screen is clear for early morning screamers.
If you are jonesing for some more big mountain style stuff, your options are a bit more limited. Let ‘em run at your own (and your bases) risk. It’s tempting to get some big fast arcs, but beware of Chevy’s (my new name for land sharks) lurking right below the surface ready to put you right over the tips in a split-second.
Good bets are:
Skiers far left of cornice run (red line)
Drop one (pink line)

You will have to climb a little up from the cornice, but the few turns you get above the gaper traverse are worth it.
Best line I found was:
Scotty’s Monument- bomb around road runner and drop in just east of the monument. Good snow and and fun chocolate chip dodge (pink lines)

Here’s the ride out from there

Note- land sharks
Looks like more snow on the way. Get up there and git some! I might be able to get up once more Mon/Tues after T-day.
I miss it already.
