    Reeeeeeeeeejected

    It's been a tough day:

I just got an email including the phrase "we regret to inform you". I didn't get into Berkeley. I was soooooooooo looking forward to joining the Kirkwood crew, moderate temps, sunshine (more than new england), attending one of the best universities in the world, living near some friends from undergrad, laughing at hippies, the list goes on.

On top of that, the hard drive in my laptop is fried. I need to try to recover the data. It's a headache I just don't need right now.

Additionally, the weight of trying to find me a Ms. Shmerham is particularly heavy today, for some reason.

So, uhhhhhh.... how 'bout them Celts? 8 out of 9 since 'Toine rejoined them. Anyone seen the latest SI Swimsuit Issue? I just did a backflip off an 80 foot cliff last weekend to straightline down a 2000 foot couloir.

    You'll always have powder.

I remember being pissed I didn't get into my top school. I'm also sure you have already heard it, but its what you make of wherever you are that defines your time at school.

Sounds like a good plan, and no, the hottie will NOT be my lil' sis, or I'll kick your ass.

Sorry to hear it didn't work out Ry, but I'm sure there's something better around the corner.

Grad School, indeed. Operations Research. It's... nevermind, you either know what it is or ya don't.

The backups are Rensselaer (RPI, read no women) and George Washington. Already been accepted to both. Don't know about finances though. Happy about that, but the first choice was A LOT higher on the list.

    Dude, free, hotel room ding???

I have a king bed so you sleep on the floor, not sharing, Im mean like that.

Bring a pad and bag and you are golden. Gotta be up techinally at 7. Show on Friday is only 2 hours so there is a chance I sleep right thru and screw it. Not many here and boring show, got a good lead to buy shit and pay for my trip so company will be happy and I have a good time. Not like they can find out on the world wide web or anything.

Seriously, bag and sleeping pad and you are set man. Lets drink!

Post up in the Maine thread manana and let me know what is up so I dont have 3 ladies in the room for me and none for you.

If you go the RPI route you'll have a skiing friend in the area. And I'll do my best to see if Mrs. L8APX can help find you a nice lady friend that doesn't mind her man leaving her every time it snows more than 6"

don't worry about it to much, I totally wasn't planning on attending Union College in Schenectady, much less living within a 100 mile radius of the Capital district but somehow here I am. Things have a way of working out

Plus, even if theres no hot girlies at RPI theres always Russell Sage right down the street, gotta be at least 1 or 2 hot future physical therapists or teachers at that school

edit: not that we'll ever be as cool as the K-wood crew, but we are getting a nice little nuclei of maggots here in the Capital district.

For sure, you have to be lost to find a place that can't be found, elseways everyone would know where it was

Vote #1: GW. No question. First of all they're in the Dance, and RPI is not. More importantly, there are more professional SMART single women who are looking for Mr. Right here per capita than anywhere else in the US. (My Poll... and someone else's, like Match.com... Seriously.)

Vote #2: I agree. Marissa Miller. A little skinny, but that's 'cause she's an athlete, not bulemic.

    Thumbs up

Berkeley is the fucking biggest piece of hippy-liberal dogshit in the world. Look at it like you just got rejected from joining the ranks of millions with a mental disease.

If your lucky you'll get to go to school somewhere that has professors that teach you to think for yourself, not simply parrot they're political agenda they spent 4 years brainwashing you into.

The money you save from buying prozac can be applied to your beer fund.

    Congratulations on the rejection!

C'mon Tip, Berkeley isn't in the "top 10 in the USA" but then appears in the "top 10 of the world"???

That makes sense to you? Where'd you go to school, Berkeley?

Oh wait, the sources are different so those lists mean jack shit.

The "Top 10 in USA" were solely private schools. Mislabeled, my friend, by the nice people who put that site together: The Chinese.

The list I posted is from The Times newspaper... in London. It shows both public AND private schools.

Hey, I didn't get into my first choice school, and it ended up being for the best. As for the hard drive, I have a pretty killer program that saved most of my friend's harddrive, send me a PM if you want more info.

Oh, and Blurred is a moron, but we all knew that. How the hell do you push a political agenda in something like Operations Research?

shmerham, I'm an OR guy, Masters; if you want to talk about anything, lemme know...my company is based in N. VA too, so not far from GW if you happen to end up there, and I am around sometimes (although rarely)

as for that, we have a guy who went RPI, he's super solid, so that's a plus for the program I guess; but I'd have to agree with Tipp, if you're looking for any real nightlife/activities/hot professional approachable women in addition to your program, it's GW hands-down. I couldn't live there cause I'm a mountain junkie, but DC is a fuggin sweet town, great people, great scene, etc, if you know where to look. I went to school in central NY, so it's not like the comparison is baseless either. DC wins, no question.

Oh also, I know this will sound like sour grapes, but even though UC Berkeley is widely recognized as a one of the top schools in the country/world, I'm not aware of it being particularly distinguished in the OR practicioners world. I dunno if that helps, but maybe it'll make ya feel better? The biggies that I usually hear about are are (off the top of my head) Georgia Tech, MIT, and Stanford, with a slew of others with great programs as well.
