    TR: The Mysterious Island

I loaded up my kayak and took a paddle out to Long Island for a few days of adventure earlier this year, thought you all might find it interesting.

Set up camp for a few nights

    The fish here are eager!
-not the biggest but action all day everyday

This island was used by the military as a defensive gun placement during WWII and there are still many structures standing

There are about 40 of these quonset huts buried in the moss throughout the island
-It is amazing that around 1000 men called this island home, it can be brutal in the Winter

Still more fishing to be done

A beautiful few days and nights

Packed and ready to head back home

So awesome, thanks for sharing. Having ventured to your lovely state earlier this year I have dreams nightly of coming back to fish. Don't be surprised when I show up to couch surf for a week. You been warned!

Haha. I've had this conversation. There is no way they'll ever understand. Trust me.

My kind of trip! From the looks of that 6th pic down there may be a little right worth bringing a surfboard and wetsuit out for?
Be careful about buying snowboard goggles for skiing. Snowboard goggles come in right eye and left eye (for goofy-footers) dominant models. This can make it hard to see correctly when skiing because you are facing straight down the hill, not sideways.

-they are like the mooing dead

It should be designated as a State Park in my opinion.
-what I did is illegal, and I'll keep doing it fwiw

I will spell this out a bit: L...e..i..snoi, Woody Island tribal blah blah

You wouldn't believe what Chiniak looks like now, raped, and the talk is that they will be logging Termination Point (an incredible trail network for those of you outside, ten miles North of town)

Not one board foot is staying in the US/Canada, all the loggers are from out of state and housed by the company which also feeds them, so the positive local economic impact is almost nil.
-not to mention how fucked and dangerous the roads are form all those log trucks

It's a bummer that greed is such a powerful drug.

    Enjoy it while it lasts!
    sheesh
Dude corporate greed downright sucks. I know you folks in AK have had your share of bad experiences, and let me tell you you're not alone. The hydrofracking in eastern PA has the potential to shut down the best (arguably) trout fishery east of the Mississippi River. They are just one fuck up away.

Sorry for the drift, but what you said struck a chord.
