Just had 2 bad beats to the same guy playing poker

Playing 2/5 at the casino this evening for the first time in awhile and had been grinding up from $250 buy/in to $550. This guy sits down to my left and is in the small blind. I have AK suited and raise $25 and the button folds . Guy X ( I'll call him) calls $25 from the big blind and a very loose older lady that everyone calls mama is short stacked at $110 and goes all in. I call and so does X. Flop comes K 7 4 rainbow. X checks and I bet $100 and he calls. Turn card comes and is a 10. I put him all in and he calls. River card is a 3. Mama rolls over and has pocket kings and I congratulate her on a nice hand. X turns over 7 3 for 2 pair. I am stunned that he would have those cards. So now I am down to $100 and I get KK under the gun. X asks if I want callers and I tell him yes he calls and so does another guy. flop comes with a bunch of small cards that likely helps nobody and he pushes $400+ in. the other guy folds. He gets runner runner hearts for a Q5 of hearts and wins the hand.

I used to play part time and now I remember why I quit for over a year. I was polite to the guy but I was shaking mad inside. Had to vent as my wife knows nothing about poker.

Know the feeling. And it's not a game of chance, but one of forecasting probabilities. Unfortunately, probability doesn't give a fuck about screwing you. I still play but had to give up murderous rage to do so. If you lay em down, you have to be willing to lose to someone who makes bad choices.

All you can worry about in poker is whether you made the right play. If you get worried about the actual cards that come after, or the players who don't make the right play, you'll drive yourself crazy.

expecting anyone else at the table to play in a sane matter will drive you nuts. all in on a pair 7s?

which is why I rarely play at a casino. mostly stick to home games.

This. Exactly. And well, a few whoops and hollars when you bluff a few good shitty hands following this.

Cash sit down poker games are stupid. More times than not, sit and play poker are benefitting the house. 21 is another stupid cash cow casino game.

Roulette seems the only pure luck game and craps the only pure strategy where you can actually make money. Casinos suck and are for really stupid people......... unless you are ultra rich.

Poker is a much better game when played in a tournament format and everyone begins on a level playing field, and no re-buyins. House games are the same as tournaments.
I won the first tournament I entered, fun game of chance....not for the control freak of heart.

Why get emotionally invested in a game of chance? You can't do anything about the cards that are dealt, all you can do is play your hand. It's definitely a case of "better to be lucky than good." Getting the rage 'cause the guy next to you got dealt the better cards is a waste of your energy.

Still, there's a guy that isn't welcome at my table anymore 'cause he couldn't be bluffed. That made everyone at the table crazy. Didn't matter what you had, he'd stick it to the end. The game isn't much fun if someone can't bluff every once in a while.

I once, years ago well before my join date, went all in on the first hand of an all day tourney. I was semi bluffing, but it was fun. Danno was actually there. Poker is actually the best game, it combines the human element with statistics like no other.

Danno, remember J. Beers with the halfies from the brewery? Good times. I miss that game with those folks.

Poker's the most fun to play but best when it's a tournament. Just you against the other players, no house involved.

If you're playing at a casino then blackjack is the best game *if* you know the rules. Even better when you can find a single deck table. Odds are like 51/49 in favor of the house at a single deck table if you play exactly like you're supposed to. Best odds you'll get at a casino.

Heh I'm playing a house game right now. No tell money involved. Buy in is a shot after you get knocked out. One puke run so far. Pretty fun

AK - The Anna Kournakova - it looks good but hardly ever wins. I miss playing tournament after $5-$10 tournament, 25 chips, blinds double each elimination with mah boys.

And you can turn those odds to even, even 51-49 in your own favor (depending on table rules) with even a simple counting system. Importantly to me, it's a game you can gfenerally play for a long time and come out close to even, which is what's called entertainment, despite Das Blunt's stupid rant above, which sounds like a million other stupid rants I've heard.

Don't gamble if you can't afford to lose. If you can afford to lose, and the gambling is fun, don't think any more about it, other than to do a gut level cost benefit.

Not mad about the money . Just seems like everyone makes their miracle draws against me . As for home games , It is hard to get a big money home game going. The guy was in for $110 pre flop out of position with 7/3 off suit then chased to the river.

Those are bad beats but you want those calls 100% of the time. I love sitting at those tables. I may go down a few hundo but as long as I keep my game and they stick around I will have their money.

That's the problem with most people that play poker for fun. They go with a few hundred and say "that's all I'll spend." You bring deep, use that first couple to feel out the table and then smash them for the next few hours. It takes composure and dedication, which I lost for a while and lost a ton, but when I was on my game, it financed years of my life.

I don't understand this at all. I want this dude at my table every. Single. Game. Because I will take his money.

Some people play specific longshots, all the time.

I play J/3 religiously, within reason, I get lucky 3/4 of the time...seriously.
