Sunday, I'll be going somewhere Rainier like.

Saturday Z-dash and I hit up Interglacier from the Prow and then doubled up on Mt Ruth since we were there it she looked lonely.

    Ruth

    Yes it goes

Excellent smoove corn skiing runs off the Prow a little before 10am again @11, best snow between 9K-7K trending to 2-4" mush below, Ruth was just a bit past prime when we finally dropped down @1:30. Nice breeze kept the sun in check on the way ups and easy walking from White River to Glacier Basin.

Anybody been up Silver Peak this week? Rain in the forecast, plan to stay close to home.

WA Pass tours were in great shape last weekend. Good birdwatching too. Ran into plugboots at Blue Lake Peak col on Saturday.

    i really miss this.....

but it's june. there's no such thing as pow in june! well, there might be some sort of pow in june. we skied the sw chutes on adams yesterday, and surprise!!!! it was pow. kind of. buffy, lumpy, dense-ish, wind affected pow. it wasn't as good as the corn i've previously skied in the sw chutes, but it was quite a surprise to ski fresh snow in one of the greatest ski runs around.

    we started early

the clouds and light worked their magic on mt. hood. which one do you like better? one of the coolest pictures i've ever taken.

mofro doesn't mind that it isn't perfect corn. especially since it was complete chicken head ice on the climbers route.

saw this guy on the way out and had a psychedelic experience.

Silver is still in good shape up high. We hiked up the PCT then up the rib just N of the big stream, started skinning just over the false divide, skied down skier's right bowl and across the creek to below the center line, which is looking cracked out.

We skied Silver Peak this evening. It'll go for solstice. Good turns up there >4400' on N aspects. We descended skier's right bowl then traversed left across the creek to join the center line. Not sure whether or not the center line is cracked out. Prepare to do some walking past the upper pond. I'll likely not be there for solstice, prolly gonna schlep my fat butt up a stratovolcano this weekend.

Skied a couloir on whistler peak, near washington pass two days ago.
Long approach in trees, rock scrambling, downclimbing a waterfall, scarry creek crossing.

But the couloir was fun, snow excellent and we skied almost 2,000 vertical feet.

Fresh Pow was to be had on Tuesday as well in the Southwest Chutes. Woke up to about a inch of new on our tent around 6500 ft. Road is clear to Cold Springs however the majority of the parking lot is still covered. 20 minutes of walking with HEAVY packs got us to our camp spot and consistent snow. Winter route is still being used.Click image for larger version.

I'll be down there tomorrow and should get a decent look at a couple routes.

Didn't really get a chance to see Hood earlier this week as it was covered in clouds and receiving snow each day. The coverage on Adams is quite good above 7,000ft with a fair amount of new snow in the last week or two buffing everything out quite nicely. I'm guessing Hood is very similar.

Summer Solstice get together on Illumination Saddle tomorrow afternoon BTW....

Thanks Brian. What did you find over the weekend? What route did you do?

I'm going to be out there next weekend with a partner. We've never done Hood before, and could probably even use a 3rd. Both have some glacier experience - I've got a 8.9 mm glacier rope and 10 pt. crampons, but I'll also be in softboots and a fidgety splitboard. Pretty much down for any route that won't require fully rigid 12 point cramps or with sustained >45 (short pitches steeper than that are fine).

Hey, what's the nearest place to PDX airport to buy a can of IsoPro fuel? I won't have a car until 8 pm, so hopefully we can hit some place for a fuel can ...
