    Good news.

Thursday has the potential to be the warmest and driest day of the week with another round of precipitation arriving Thursday night into Friday. More showery weather is possible by the end of the weekend.
    Less good news.

It was a longer walk to skiable snow than I was hoping for this time of year, but generally good skiing and excellent views as always in the Enchantments.

Nothing here or on the padded seats or in the slide zone about an accident on the N. Face of Shuksan recently? Anyone know what happened?

Hasn't froze overnight at the pass in a few days. I finished skiing at 10:00 on Wednesday, and a guy was just heading out with his 2 kids. His son asked if it was any good, (all fired up), and I said no, it's too late. His Dad asked if it was "Too mushy". I said, "Well yeah, that, and it's getting unsafe." Maybe I helped. Who knows.

My Wed. night dusk patrol to the top of Alp was great. Started up just as the sun disappeared from the lower slopes, topped-out in time to snag a quick lap up high before catching the sunset and moonrise, then slid top to bottom down Nash with great stability and good visibility from the full moon overhead. Upper slopes held a couple inches of refreezing corn, by the time we got down to the top of Sessel, the snow firmed-up considerably making for quick turns to the car.

Observed exactly one indicator of instability, a chunk of snow releasing off the heated rocks above Powder Bowl. Didn't trigger much of a slide at all and came to a stop well above the bottom of Edelweiss Bowl.

Sounds like down low is the safest and best skiing choice right now. Go where it didn't snow 2+ feet in the last couple weeks. Black Peak was unconsolidated garbage yesterday. Alpental or Silver sound good.

FYI, word on the street is that snow blocks the road ~1.5 miles before Windy Pass on FS 9070 for those interested in attempting Silver.

Black Peak from Thursday, I'd like to go back and ride the summit couloir sometime when the snow is more stable.

Silver Peak is in great shape. Road clear to within 200 meters of Windy Pass. Continuous snow from car to and from ridge top. The steep central line goes fine but some glide cracks are forming.

Some Teanaway tours will be in shape this weekend but will require more walking that typical this time of year. On Monday we skied Judy's aka Judi's (via Bean Basin). Hiked to 5100' to get snow, good skiing above that. Last night skied Silver and saw wolfs from TAY who reported good skiing on Fortune.

Did you have your 9mm with you?

Snow pack certainly is thin low down yet pretty good up high... seems odd after the past few years of abundance .

Maybe 3 feet of snow at WA Pass parking. 2 feet or so at Rainy Pass. Rod send me a PM as it gets closer if you've got any more conditions questions.

Thanks john. I might do that if I need more info, but at this point we are committed.
Found a babysitter near twisp for the two kids, rented an apartment, etc.
We can always climb if the skiing is not great.

I think I'll appear in costume. Wouldn't want her highness, Mrs. K, having the Big S pass I just renewed for next year cancelled like she did to a buddy of mine:
Well over a year ago (March 2013) i wrote a post about an article that Kim Kircher posted on her site. My post was titled Fuck You Knuckle Dragger which seemed perfectly fitting. In it I highlighted a few choice quotes from Mrs Kircher where she more or less bashed on snowboarding. I felt i kept my article fairly neutral and didn’t get derogatory towards Kim. See for yourself.

The result of my article was a mini snowboarding-interwebs viral backlash against Kim Kircher and Crystal Mountain–Snowboarding was pissed. Multiple other bloggers wrote about Kim’s article. Multiple comments of mis-treatment by Crystal were dropped in comments. Stickers were made. T-shirts were made. A Fake-Kim-Kircher twitter account showed up. Even an Instagram account popped up. Shit went bonkers for a while and Kim Kircher deleted her original post. The amount of activity as a result of simply pointing out what Kim Kircher had written on her Blog blew my mind.

Fast forward to February 2014 snowboarding at Alpental for my first day of the season (super late winter up here in the NW last winter). Ticket checker scans my pass and notes to me that i have a message in his little scanner thing that i’m to call Dan Brewster. Weird…Ok? I disregard and proceed to continue to ride a few more times. Eventually my pass ceases to work.

Story was that Kim Kircher was a little bent on my article and all the resulting stickers/t-shirts/Twitters/Instagrams and handed down a decree to pull my pass. If you weren’t aware, Crystal Mountain or Boyne Resorts owns/manages/operates/whatever Snoqualmie Pass. Enough so that Kim Kircher was able to call up Dan Brewster, the General Manager at Snoqualmie Pass and kill my pass.

Shitty, and shady stuff for Kim Kircher to pull my pass for simply pointing out how asinine her article was even though she agreed as demonstrated by pulling her original article (which you can find here). As far as i know i’m 86′d from Snoqualmie Pass. Probably Crystal Mountain too.

I could care less as i’ve retired from snowboarding but figured i’d keep this BS rolling in classic passive aggressive Northwest form.

    Have a great summer!

Hey. Congrats on your buddy giving up snowboarding. I hope it wasn't the blog wars that drove him to it.

From my experience, your pal can work this out, but he or she will have to go have a face to face chat and explain their position.
