Babar, you're babbling. as I've stated earlier my ass was in the sling too. it sucked, cost me a ton of dough and was a general pain for the past year. But it's not anyone's fault but mine. I got a DUI in Vail. home of probably the best and cheapest(I think the largest free bus system in the US) public transportation. I don't blame society or the liquor lobby. I blame myself for being the idiot to get behind the wheel that evening. nor do I think that other citizens should be taxed so that I can have a cheap way home after I've had too much to drink. In all reality, the cab ride could cost $1000 and it's a bargain campared to what I spent over the past year.

Nobody's blaming society. You don't like being taxed so people have busses. I don't like being taxed so the cops can have more cruisers, equipment, weapons, lock-up space, and graveyard shifts in suburbia. You are right though, we should all know better, and the biggest crime of all is getting caught.

That absolutely sucks. .08 is such a ridiculously low level for a DWI/DUI. It was lowered to help the police departments boost their income.

As a lawyer--I would advise you to find the best attorney in the area--don't skimp on the fees...find the absolute best...if you don't know who the best is then go find some police officers and ask them who the best is in your area....hire that attorney and let him do his magic.

Who knows its highly possible that the BAC testing machine wasn't properly calibrated which caused an inaccurate test result.

You guys are all right about what a dumbfuck I was...sheesh...what was I thinking.

Life should be absolutely safe, everyone has a right to safety at all times and in all places; and should grow to be so old that they can't take care of themselves or remember the dull, safe life they lived.

I'm thinking, also, that since I've been hurt much more often by skiing than by drunk drivers that skiing should also be outlawed entirely. I mean, I wouldn't want anyone to violate the sacred right to safety by engaging in such a dangerous activity.

Thanks for straightening me out folks.

    Me, me, me.

That's usually the case with people who complain about drink driving laws.

    whoops, almost missed this gem.

OK, so now it's some kind of personal thing between you and me... and you're going to threaten me because I used to drive hammered a lot. Believe me pal, 9/10 odds I've dealt with sketchier people than you, and I'm not going to, all of a sudden, start living in fear that I may run into the tough-guy-SafetyNazi from the internet someday.

Not because she's a hell of a lot tougher than you, It's because she is infinitely smarter than you.

The only person to have ever "kicked my ass right into the ground" was a 6'8", 260 lb. Marine Close Combat Instructor.

Frankly, I don't give a flying fuck how smart the SafetyNazi is. Wrong is wrong. And making threats on an internet board is wrong....and not a strong indication of intelligence.

We were in really close quarters longer than I'd have liked. I was in a tight spot between leaving the fire and getting away from this nut job and sticking it out getting my ass kicked every time he had some aggression to deal with. This dude's deal was that he basicly needed to fight somebody every day, and I was the biggest guy on the crew, so it became me. I chose to keep my job and take the beatings.

I didn't start any of this. I just call bullshit when I see it.

Anyway, it seems pretty clear that whatever I say here is going to end up with one of you pricks mocking it because you all think I'm many things that I'm not.

so. I'll just call it a night with this:

    I'm right, you're wrong...now go fuck yourselves

I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong, I'm just saying your dick waving over the fact that you drive drunk so often is fucking rediculous. You're a pretentious bitch looking for someone to listen to you and you're all upset that everyone is attacking you over it when you were hoping your c00l d00dz on the intarweb would praise you for it.

Maybe you should take it over to newschoolers and brag that you drink and drive, I'm sure the junior high mentality will look upon you as a hero and praise you often for you ability to act like a hick fucktard.

As far as the whole "OMG I GOT MY ASS KICKED BY A MARINE IM SO CORE" I grew up with a Force Recon Marine and often had horrificly painful yet simple things done to my wrists, ankles, neck, etc. that I'm sure in the future will come back to haunt me. Big fucking deal, he always said "everyone is the same size on the ground" which obviously points out to me that you were too much of a pussy to stand up to him and devise sneaky ways to hand his ass to him and put him back in line.

This thread has really done well at summing up the current mentality on this board and it really makes me sad.

To the origional poster: Yeah, you fucked up. Welcome to reality and being an "adult". You pay for the consequences, the laws aren't going to change and make it ok at any point, no matter how much anyone whines on a message board about them. I hope you learned a lesson from this.

Things I never said, or thought:

    1) how cool I am for having been an alcoholic

    2) How core I was for getting beat down by a CCI

So prick of you to add that in there though, thanks for that.

    Points I was making:

    1) That, in a place where 50% of drivers are legally drunk, life went on and it wasn't constant tragedy. The bullshit attitude that any and all driving after you've had 2 beers (like PacRimRider) will lead to certain death is disproved every day in Taos NM. Go and see, ask Tresckow, I shit you not. Sit and watch drunks driving up and down Cruz Alta, somehow living to tell about it...to listen to the sanctimonious posts in this thread you'd think that Taos would be a constant 50 car pileup. Not the case.

    2) That this:

is nothing compared to what I've dealt with. Why even bother with the internet threats...it's ridiculous.

Why did this not make it into the brochure Taos sent me? This sounds like my sort of tourist attraction.

so. I'll just call it a night with this:

    I'm right, you're wrong...now go fuck yourselves

If you actually re-read most of the posts, I didn't think too many people came off as preachy, just voiced their opinions. You, however, come across as a complete dick incapable of rational thought. Your logic is fucked up. If anyone wants to try the experiment I mentioned earlier, I suggest you do it! Get about 10 friends together and let three of them drink. Feed them drinks to various levels of impairment and determine if you would want them to drive. Then, take them down to the PD and have them blow into the intoxilizer. You will be amazed how inebriated some people seem to be at .08.

Also kinda funny that you got your ass handed to you by an ex-Marine. They don't even do the real combatives/grappling training that will really put your ass in a sling.

Finally, LAN's verbage -- and I disagree with how sanctimonious she was when writing about her feelings -- (and posted as much though I agree with her overall message) did not communicate any present intent of harm. She, like me, would do everything in her power to address someone who hurt a friend or family member. I'm generally a pretty reserved guy, but if someone whacked one of my family members in drunk driving accident, I would want to crush them. Again, we need a cultural realignment and our DUI laws are way too lax to make that happen. I don't care where you are, no one is forcing you to drive and if they are, it's a defense! I do realize everyone makes a mistake, and if a guy is right at the limit and it is a first offense, it can usually be reduced to reckless driving or something analogous -- esp. if they have a good attorney.

Sounds like motorcycling with friends every summer weekend for years. I'm not wet behind the ears, I have lots and lots of experience with this. You people think you're the only ones who've had tragedies. Please. I'm just wise enough to understand that zero-tolerance ruins more lives than it saves. At some point you have to realize that the risks associated with freedom are better than living in a police state. How a skier can argue with that I'll never understand.

Yeah, what do special forces close combat instructors know anyway?
