    Kastle MX 98 194

They are bringing this ski back for next year, but will have early release in Dec. IMO, the best 98 under foot ski made. Two sheets of metal, laminate with no rocker, a traditional ski that is totally bomb proof.
Just thought i would give everyone a heads up.

I agree 100%. I've been going crazy looking for a second pair. Now, I can just wait until the end of the year.

i love my 188 MX98s (however they have the hollow-tech on both tip and tail).

i've heard that the hollow-tech tip only w/ square tail is even better.

This ski should have some early rise... Have been looking for a mid 90 ski and it will either be this one or the 2014 Stockli Stormrider 95 in a 192... Never have been on a Kastle, but I don't think you can go wrong with either... Would also really love the new Stockli 107, but have major overlap in that width... Now I just need to find that length in the 190 size...

Assume it's being released in 10 cm increments as before (174/184/194)?

Yes it is. I know the 74 and 84 are coming, not sure about the 94's, they didn't sell well the first time around.

Will this be the same exact ski as the old square tail MX 98, with a bit of shovel rise? Single hollow tech? I hope so (minus the early rise). IMO, that would be sooo much nicer than the FX 94, or the BMX 98.
I own the old MX 98, and used to own the FX 94. The first is smooth as silk, and the latter has a problem with tail hooking.

Same mold as the original MX98. Surprised you had a problem with the FX's tail hook up, I never found that.

Gonna briefly hijack this thread- I just got a pair of MX88s. I usually tune/grind the skis out of the box, but these seem perfectly tuned. Before I take the file to them, has anyone found Kastle MXs need any work, or are they pretty much good to go as is? Asking here because you're all Kastle owners.

This is not the same ski. This ski they are bringing back has the square tail.

On another note, always ski your skis prior to doing work on them, unless they are clearlly railed or base high.

Lastly, Yes 100% the 194 is coming back. They are only making 50 pairs. Contact your local rep of shop to order. I have two pairs on order. This will be the 4th and 5th pair i have had.

    Enjoy

Only 50 pairs for this season? So I guess no demos unless I find some old ones? I've been looking for a new daily driver for around here and had thought about finding an old pair to try since they sound right up my alley. Anyone have a pair of old ones for sale?

Good luck. I have two pair, ill give you one, they are beat down big time. No sidewall left. No life in them.
The last pair i bought from Hugo and had a friend bring them down from Canada. I have scoured Craigslist and ebay over the years and there is nothing left.
Send me a PM and you can pick these up if you are in the valley.

I hate tuning so maybe that is why i ski them first. Most skis i get are lamintates and they usually come pretty well tuned. Add some soft snow and i can adjust for a 1 degree here or there.

Thanks for the tip. I tend to err on the side of all-new-carving-skis-get-a-grind-and-tune, as I like tuning and I also love the way a race-style tune slices up the New England hardpack. I think I'll wait on these though.

I have a pair of Square tail MX 98 with only tip hollowtech. Phil, I would like another pair in 184, please.
Regarding the FX 94, I toured with them 2x last March. Both times, the snow was wind blown, upside down, mank. For some reason, I just couldn't put together turns with the ski in those conditions. I was very surprised, but decided, after two not so fun descents, to sell them.
Regarding new skis, I always put a fresh coat or 3 of wax. I don't detune the tips and tails until I ski them first.

Certainly a valid question. The answer is because they already appear to be in great shape (much better than other new skis I've received), but more importantly, I just shelled out for a pair of Kastles, don't own a stone grinding machine, and I'm CHEAP!

Bump. Is there an update on a release date. I've been skiing my old MX98 a lot, and wouldn't mind getting another pair (squaretails, hollowtech in tip only).

I was wondering the same thing too. I thought they were supposed to be out by now!
