Anyone here from Montauk or know it well?

I'm looking to do a bachelor party in Montauk for my brother--hoping to do some surfing while we are out there... Anyone have any advice on places to surf (we are both relatively new to surfing), places to eat, anywhere that might have live music, any other activities? I've never been to Montauk, so I have no idea what to expect, but most people are coming from the city or western LI, so we decided on Montauk...

    Thanks!

There's a lot of charter boats of different sizes out of Montauk that you could go fishing/have a party/both on. The ferry company Viking has a big boat they charter

You can go to Gosmans for dinner. Cool place right on the water surrounded by a small little shopping center. Surfing, not too sure cause I've never surfed. There is a surf shop in town that should be able to point you in the right direction. Love it out there.
Took me like 10 minutes to figure out how to change this shit

Awesome, thanks fellas. Hadn't thought of the fishing charter--that's a good one.

A friend recommended Gosmans, too--sounds like that'll be on the list.

    Thanks again.

Surf lodge for dbags and models. Sloppy tuna for same, though slightly less dbaggish and more jersey shore grows up. Stephen Talkhouse in amagansett for live music : http://www.stephentalkhouse.com/.

Herb's Meat Market for all your carnivorous needs. "You can't beat Herb's Meat".

Ditch plains is the most well known surf spot.

Great time of year to be there- dbag population significantly depleted.

Road G in Southampton for surfing if you don't want to drive that far. Stay far far away from 75 main unless you are dbag hunting. Sip n soda is your greasy spoon. Shippy's for old school steaks/ German fare.

Cheap smokes at the Indian reservation...

Awesome, thanks Larry. Have heard Sloppy Tuna is great, as well as as Ditch Plains for waves. Will definitely check out these other spots.

It has been over twenty years since I surfed around there, but I recall Ditch Plains being a fairly mellow break. Rode it at head high and wished I had a longboard. Steep peak followed quickly by a long backing off sort of wave. I think it is a rocky entrance. The beaches nearby tend to be quite a bit punchier, but sand bottom. So a toss up for newbies.

Never did much else besides surf there. I did stay/work on Shelter Island between the forks. Pretty cool out there. Not much to do, but pretty enough.
