Just got back from Punta Mita. Even with no south in the water, there were waves everywhere from local wind swell. Water quality over there IMO is sketchy as best.

Just back from a week in Lo de Marcos. What a sweet little town. It was completely devoid of little shops selling cheap made in china tourist crap. It had a big enough grocery store to provide everything one would need. Plenty of restaurants. Lots of great street tacos. Best of all, by luck we were there during the annual 9 day town festival so there were bands playing all over, and the town was full of locals doing their thing. Very few gringos when we were there. The people were generally friendly. All in all we had a great time. I hope Lo de Marcos can avoid being overrun with resorts and maintain its charm.

The down side is that there was very little surf. There was decent swell on the day that we arrived but it tapered off and the water was calm the rest of our trip. I think things really go off there when the swell is right but it needs it to come from the west, not the south. I'm not a surfer but my daughter wanted to take surf lessons so her, my son, and I signed up with the local surf shop for a lesson. Because of the lack of swell locally, we jumped in their boat and scooted around the corner where there was a nice beach break pumping out beginner waves with high frequency. This beach was also accessible by car and we were the only ones there. After an hour we were thoroughly worked with smiles all around.
