I just spent the last 2 1/2 hours trying to remove the lake that is forming in front of my place. Old snow melting in straight rain -
    South Lake.

    nice work BGnight

Long time lurker first time poster. This thread wonderful. Mean it. And please no mean replies. Thanks for all the current updates on weather and snow conditions. My addition: my intel officer tells me it has not really rained much at Serene Lakes at approx 7000 ft today. Any Sugar Bowl updates from today from the crowd?

If you all give an award for best post you should consider this from BGnight,

"I don't even know why I'm posting on this thread. Besides a few locals like gimpy and powdork, it's just match.com for over sensitive, middle aged male, bay area, weekend wannabees. I'll stick to lurking and poaching everyone's beta for my own sake. Bye. "

Funny about summit--wind speeds about the same yesterday and today and they ran summit yesterday. Wonder if the issue was snow safety. They were dropping a lot of charges at SB this morning--I can hear it from my house. I know they've laid off a lot of patrollers at SV and AM and I wonder if a lot of them have left town to find work. Same thoughts about upper SV. I suppose it's possible that they have the manpower but the snow is just too dangerous. I've skied at AM a couple of times over the years when they've shut the upper mountain after post control releases. But I'm just an over sensitive, old age, Truckee wannabe, so what do I know?

Edit--according to Mark on Unofficial Alpine the issue was snow safety. Don't know about Squaw. NWS has posted an avalanche alert.

It's just a basic fact that AM sucks during storms and that summit very seldom runs in them. Sorry you didn't know any better and wasted your day getting wet. I think I love you.

Poaching beta is what TGRs for. And buying gear to flip.

edit: I NEED PICS FROM THE EPIC DAY TODAY!

Im not sure whats happening on the north end of the lake or vailwood, but the 50 corridor is getting hammered in this storm, almost 8" of rain in the strawberry valley, and lots of snow at 7000' and above.

It was fucking epic today. I have an email to prove it. But I won't post any more info as I now know someone will just poach my beta. Not gonna let that happen. No way.

I always love when folk who live in a tourist economy complain about the tourist. Simple solution. Move.

Then they wouldn't have the cool outlets and restaurants.

I live here and NEVER complain about the tourists. The ONLY reason any of us are able to live here is that tourists bring money from elsewhere and spend it here. It's not just the restaurants & lodging--the construction jobs are all thanks to the tourists too.

I've lived in mountain towns for about 15 years and have never understood why locals complain about tourists.

So thank you, Bay Area folks, for coming up here every weekend. You make it possible for me to live here and ski on weekdays!

I've heard that Kirkwood Mountain Resort has an extensive network of intermediate runs that I'd be delighted to explore with you. We can ride matching skis and it will be lovely!

And lets not forget Foster who died on the job to open terrain. Its a dangerous job and we should all be thankful for whatever they open during weather periods such as this.
