Made a few turns in the Tamarack area earlier today. Good for exercise, not much else.

Anybody riding at Alpine this weekend? Do employee passes count as other resort pass for the discount?

Should be fun! Not too warm.
Was hoping to get a ride up (from Oakland), but have been told we are going to the Cat Video Festival tomorrow.

Oh well, was lucky enough to be at Mammoth last weekend, and had an excellent time, (and the lifts ran until 4).

Am I reading AM's page right? $50 for pass holders? It really does not seem that long ago that I was getting spring day tix there for $24.

Standard day tix were $39 ($56 holiday) this side of a decade ago. I understand that running a ski area is more expensive when you are a real estate firm though, so that must explain the price increase.

Snowing hard enough that I can't see across Donner Lake. Time to break out the scotch.
RF--is it time to start the 2014-15 thread?

Anyone headed through Tuolumne Meadows/Tioga Pass from the Bay Area anytime soon? I need to pick up my unused cache from the hut....

PM me, and I'll gladly repay you with some beer.

SB was fun today! Only 10 minutes of dirt on the summit hike. All kinds of great terrain still good.

Was that you headed up with ski's about 10:30? We had two dogs on the Disney side coming down about the same time.

Anyone know what the skinning situation is at Kirkwood right now? If you could choose between Sugar Bowl or Kirkwood, what would you choose?

    Mt. Lola is flush.
Got my truck stuck in a snow berm on the way up and spent an hour digging it out.
The entire hike to the summit was through snow.
Was able to ski all the way back to the truck.
Backside (north facing slopes) are holding nicely and the frontside (east facing) ridge line is filled in almost completely.
Snow was thick in spots (we still haven't had a great freeze/thaw cycle recently) and there was evidence of some sliding (huge chunks broken off from the cornices on the ridge, plus we kicked off some small wet slides on some of the lower angle slopes we skied). Elsewhere, the snow was semi-corn and damn near creamy.

For a year that has been reported as being incredibly low for snow in Tahoe, Lola is in the best shape I've ever seen it. It should hold nicely into June and perhaps longer.

Backside of Castle Peak (Coon Canyon) still looks good, too.

Thanks for the report Dookey. Wonder if you need all the clearance of a Tacoma to get back there? Might try it with my previa next week.

If your willing to work for it there is still lots of snow up high in the Tahoe area.

Freel area, taken from the Bench yesterday

This area above Showers lake looks fun, short runs but looks fun and smooth, taken from the rim trail near the xmas valley trail on Friday.

I don't have a pic but the Crystal range looks fat!

i'd have to guess that in previous years you weren't venturing back to lola anywhere near this early. the snow is typically good this time of year and the suncups aren't typically an issue until june.

if you'd rather drive for it than work for it, sonora pass is holding the goods. hutchski on three things at once. skied the stuff in the background (right off the road) the next day. crossing deadman's creek may be an issue by now or in the near future but the other typical lines right off the pass start on snow from the car. (more from the trip here)

Broken Glass down to the waterfall on the Rose summer trail skied well. The dogs and I took the scenic tour back via Relay Road in tennis shoes and shorts with a beer in hand…

you're absolutely on point with that. in fact, i was mentioning that to both Vets and Gone2Alpine the other day. I believe in previous spring/summers we didn't venture out to Lola until late June/early July.

still, even though we've hit it earlier this season and last season, there's still a nice cache of snow up there and it should be skiable well into July, possibly longer.

that said, a nice freeze/thaw cycle would be swell.

on the suncup front, I've never really encountered too many of 'em up on Lola over the past few seasons...
