With 30" in the last week and no one to track it up it could be alright on friday. Maybe no Wolf Creek, but I'll be there wrecking my new boards on the thin snowpack.

What thin snowpack?
BTW: it will be tracked up by Friday. The media and special guests get access a day early.
sonofabitch, I'm special too.
The report is saying 17" on the ground, hence the thin snowpack comment. Of course it said 15" before they got about 2 feet of snow. I haven't been up around those parts lately, anyone know?
Doesn't take much to get covered. I'll probably be there Saturday, but hopefully I wont be skiing the same thing everyone else will be. You have any b/c gear? Anyone else gonna be there this weekend?Originally posted by cmor

Good point Pinner ! I love how Vail promotes the Grand Opening of say " China Bowl " only to find out it was tracked the day before by industry types, corporate tycoons and B-list celebrities![]()

Are they even going to open more than a few trails? Seems most hills in the area are being stingy saving it for Thanksgiving weekend.

I'm gonna pass on this weekend. Only have 10 days up there and with some days off next semester I'm holding out for midweek dumps. Little bit of advice for you guys heading up get to that first chair early or be prepared to stand around for an hour+. Anyone remember last years opening day??
From their website here is what Vail says will be open:
More than 4 feet of snow since November 1st! Vail opens Friday,November 21st. The Eagle Bahn Gondola, Chair 2, 8, 15 and the Magic Carpets are scheduled to be open.

From what I heard opening day had some hellish lift lines last year, I never made it , totaled my car on the way there![]()
I think they opened on a saturday though, I'm hoping friday will be better. And I'll be about a 5min shuttle away so the plan is to beat the crowds early.
The also opened with 2000 acres and 7 feet of snow. Not quite as spectacular this year. They may also open more terrain this weekend depending on weather. Are you coming from the front range?Originally posted by cmor

I do... and after the first 1.5 hour lift line the rest of the day was off the hook.Originally posted by CUBUCK

Vail Mountain opens this Friday, November 21 now with 8 lifts and magic carpets servicing the LionsHead, Avanti (Chair 2) and Mid Vail (Chairs 3 and 4) terrain.
Yee ha, just a short hike to the b/c!
dude, be careful... some of those hikes off the magic carpet are hairball.
don't worry... i'll be wearing my tough guy helmet.Originally posted by Pinner

Last year's opener was pretty great. We got there at 7 and skied fresh all day. October and November snowfall was outstanding last year though.
You know, there's like a butt-load of gangs at this school. This one gang kept wanting me to join because I'm pretty good with a bowstaff.
Only 20" behind last year's snowfall. Hopefully, that will be less by the weekend.Originally posted by Honc
