    Jongish jacket question

I tried searching for an answer, but nothing particularly relevant was returned.

I have a goretex shell with a semi-hard plastic visor bonded to the fabric of the hood. The plastic has become creased in a couple places after being stuck in a my pack a bunch of times, and I find this annoying when wearing the hood by itself, as it partially obstructs my vision. I figure heating the visor with an iron might release these creases, but I'm concerned that the heat might also cause the adhesive to become unbonded and mess up the hood. Does anyone have an idea as to what the heat tolerances in the adhesives used for outerwear applications? Thanks for any help.

The care instruction for Gore-Tex suggest ironing on medium heat after washing and drying to improve repellency. So, wash and dry your jacket, and iron the whole thing on medium heat.

Or, you could skip the wash/dry, just iron the visor and save some time...up to you.

What about cutting it, replacing the plastic, and stitching it back up?

Thanks for the reply. I ended up ironing on the highest setting- medium heat wouldn't do it- and then putting the offending section between two wood blocks and clamping it. It seems to have worked, without damaging the adhesive bonding the plastic to the fabric.

So..... you wear the hood by itself?

Does this mean it is a detachable hood and you wear it with say.... just a t-shirt?

It's mad sick when I rock the hood without the jacket, usually with a backwards raiders jersey, though- like, hella gangsta...

I just meant without a helmet, e.g. when hiking, doing olympic deadlifts, etc.
